Does Afformation Really Change Your Life?

My Personal Opinion About the Book by Noah St. John – “The Book of Afformations”

When I first heard about Afformations, I was a little confused. I didn’t understand how simply asking yourself the same motivational question every day could actually change your life. My first reaction was full of skepticism—as someone who naturally questions these kinds of self-help ideas.

Recently, however, I had the chance to read Noah St. John’s book “The Book of Afformations”, and I have to admit—it totally changed the game for me.

Let me go back to the beginning. A magical thing happened when I first discovered this book. It was about a year ago, and I stumbled upon it in a small bookshop while I was in Switzerland. I bought it spontaneously but decided to read it once I got home. Looking back now, I realize that my Afformation journey actually started six months ago—when I made the bold decision to leave Switzerland, return to my homeland, and create a new life for myself.

It all started with one powerful question, which popped into my mind just like in the stories described in the book:

“Why do I want to live my perfect life?”

That one question led to a series of decisions that brought me to where I am today.

Now, let’s talk about the book itself—my expectations, my impressions, and how I see it. First of all, I’d like to say the book is very well-structured and easy to read. It uses simple vocabulary, making it great for beginners or even intermediate English readers. The ideas are presented step-by-step, so even if you’re skeptical like I was, the first few chapters will really help you understand the core concept of Afformations.

One of the most important takeaways from the book is this: Afformations are not just a bunch of motivational questions you find on the internet or copy from someone else. The real power lies in creating your own questions—questions that reflect what you truly want in life. And they must be phrased in a positive and empowering way.

Once you understand the core idea from the first few chapters and create your first empowering question, the next step is to turn it into an Afformation and repeat it regularly. However, it's important to remember that your Afformation alone won’t work without action—and that’s one of the key messages of this book.

Action is the powerful force that leads to results, when combined with the right question and a consistent Afformation practice. Without action, nothing will change. And without the right question, you won’t be inspired to take action. The two go hand in hand.

If you have trouble formulating your own Afformation questions while reading, you can go to the later chapters of the book, where you'll find a variety of example Afformations divided into 10 different categories. I've recently started using many of them myself, and they’ve been really helpful.

To conclude, I want to say that Afformations don’t change your life overnight. First, your brain starts to work differently. Over time, you’ll notice your thoughts becoming more empowering, and you’ll begin to see more positivity—both within yourself and in the people around you. It might feel like a miracle, but in reality, it’s your own thoughts that lead to empowering questions—and, as you’ve learned, to motivated and powerful actions that can transform your life completely and sometimes even instantly.

I'm truly happy that I discovered this book. It wasn’t the first motivational book I’ve ever read, but it was one of the first that actually inspired me to take action and try something new—Afformations.
