Rising From The Ashes

Fire April 11, 2022

What I thought was the end but it was the beginning!

I went to bed on Sunday, April 10th, 2022 not knowing our lives were going to change in a few hours. It was a normal night, I was hugging the edge of my bed while Peanut and Pj ( my 2 fur babies ) hogged the rest of the bed. Around 1:30am they woke me up needing to go potty, or so I thought. Pj will wake me up "kissing" me when I'm asleep if he needs to go outside. That part wasn't out of the norm however, his dad, Peanut was on my chest "kissing" me too! That was weird for him. Once he's in bed that's it, he's in for the night. I'm laying there thinking... man ... really? I'm the kind of person that once I get woke up, I'm up for the rest of the day. So, I'm laying there cussing under my breath and I finally get up. As we were going down the hall, I started smelling something. When we rounded the corner, there was a fire in my kitchen! My boys, my heros woke me up before the smoke detectors went off! I had just enough time to grab my phone, purse and their leashes. I loaded my boys up and called 911 to get the fire department out. Within 5 minutes, my home was completely engulfed!

The fire department in Mount Juliet, Tennessee responed within a few minutes. After that, I couldn't tell you what happened. It was all just a blur. All I could do was cry and have a major anxiety attack. After awhile, it dawned on me, I needed to go be with my fur babies. It wasn't just my home that was gone, it was theirs too! That was the only home either one of them had known. I sat with them in my car, watching the flames as they went higher and higher. Sitting there with my 2 boys, I was watching my life from the last 6 years be destroyed.

The brave men and women from the fire department were there for almost 6 hours. One of them told me it was the worst fire that had in a very long time. That was the first time I've seen a fire department in action like that. They truly are a brave group ! When they had it put out and were sitting on the road resting, I thanked each and every one of them. If I were a rich person, I would love to take the whole department out for a really nice meal! Before they left, the Red Cross was contacted on my behalf.

When everyone had left and it was just myself and my fur babies, I just sat there looking at everything, taking it all in. That's when it hit me ,HARD. That night, the Good Lord was working through Peanut and Pj. I hit my knees right then and there and thanked him for blessing me with another day.

Since that day back in April, what I thought was the end turned out to be a new beginning! We're now in Kentucky in the middle of nowhere, which I absolutely love! Peanut and Pj are finally starting to adjust. It was so rough on them. They didn't understand what was going on, why we weren't home. Why we were in a new place for so long ( a hotel ) , not able to run and play like before. Now they have a HUGE front and back yard to do whatever they want.

What started off being such a sad situation has been a huge blessing for us.
