Resolutions from Higher Self
The art of making space for yourself

Usually I would do my own resolutions, but this year I had a special guest with a lot to say.
The end of one year and the beginning of a new one was always very exciting for me. From a young age, I started to develop a special love for that moment when I would sit with my journal and read my new year's resolutions comparing it with how everything actually played out. Then I would do a balance of my achievements, progresses, challenges, or setbacks, and I would take that as a point of reference for the resolutions of the upcoming year. This system seemed to be working pretty well, giving me a general feeling of improvement, and a clear idea of how to go from wherever I was, to where I wanted to be. This year, however, something was different. This simple methodology only demands one thing: clear goals. And that was exactly what I didn’t have.
For someone who has been working on visualization, teaching herself how to create her own reality, and seeing it happen like magic in front of her eyes, in so many different ways, it was difficult to accept that I simply didn’t know what to create. Although to be fair, that itself is a contradiction. Something within myself knew exactly what it wanted, there was just another part that would not let it speak out. So I decided to send the guards of my mind to take some holidays and allowed the other part to express itself.
This part of myself knew that there is another way of living life, one that is easy. This time I did not want to choose what to create, I wanted to be guided, surprised, delighted. Something within myself knew that the things I was aspiring with my mind, were so small in comparison with the magic of allowing. One day on my morning meditation I asked the question: How can I make the best from this year? Guide me, I want to listen.
This is what I received:
This is the year to give yourself the time you deserve, be your true self, expressing the simple joy of existence, with the eyes of curiosity and the playfulness of a child. There are three main resolutions for this year that will make your life the satisfying journey that is meant to be.
Honor your body
In the quest of pursuing our goals, we demand so much from our bodies. Be gentle with your body, darling. No matter how many things you would like to change about it, it is serving us so well, being able to smell, taste, touch. To feel the softness of your clothes, the hug of a loved one, the translation of vibration that your ears produce so that you can experience sound. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself how many cells get to work so that you can taste? Every organ is involved in such complex mechanisms, and we give this amazing technology for granted. Take the time to thank it, for that amazing work. How do you do that? Give it the food that it will make it soar, hug yourself, engage in deep breathing, relax. Move it, moving is a way of showing your appreciation, doesn’t matter whether it is through a hard workout, walking, or dancing, the body loves expressing as much as it loves sensing.
And rest, properly, consciously. You know how harmful it is when we overlook the need for rest. We all have done it at some point, and it is so easy to get used to it, so much so that we sometimes even forget how a truly rested body feels like, and we normalize stress and pain, and we use substances that don’t really give us a solution. You know what I am talking about, do you? Going to bed at irregular times, just to stay awake in the dark, until your eyes feel sandy and your head is a mess of thoughts. May this be the year of accepting that some days are made to be spent in bed, and that is perfectly okay. Just listen, carefully, get used to hearing your body, it holds much more wisdom than we give it credit for.
Let your mind rest
The mind is also always working for us, very often we make it overwork and burn out. We will always have goals, they are the engine of existence, but there are different ways of addressing them. You tried it before, visualizing, focusing, working hard. This year, allow yourself to be guided. Let your inner being show you ways that go far beyond your imagination. Let your mind rest assured that everything is being organized for you. The universe is always working backstage, arranging meetings, timing, weather, songs on the radio, books falling from their shelves. This is not an unfamiliar notion. Actually, it is something fairly spread nowadays, but how often do we truly apply it? Years of practicing visualization and meditation helped, of course, but still, there's a thick layer of control, of working too hard, that many of us find hard to let go of. It is fantastic to create our own reality, but there is absolute magic in opening the window for the unknown.
And how to thank your mind? Just like the body, giving it moments to relax. Meditation is one of the greatest gifts that we can give to our mind, but also live life with a peaceful mind, notice when to put on a movie and laugh, or put on some music allowing it to override for a moment the barriers of daily thoughts.
Pamper your soul
Keep your heart warm. As simple as that. Do the things that light you up. It is important to take care of our responsibilities and our loved ones, but making space for ourselves is a gift for the entire universe. Practice gratitude for every little thing in your life, the people, the fun, the lessons, the growth. When you start looking at things to appreciate your entire life changes. You have done it many times, but can you imagine how powerful would it be to have it as a clear intention for a whole year, to look at everything with the eyes of infinite love?
There is no better way of connecting your body mind and soul than being present. And you can do that by simply making a cup of tea. Feel the warmth through your chosen cup, enjoy the color, the texture, take a moment to acknowledge how does it feel in your fingertips, feel the steam in your face, opening the pores of your skin, the smell, the taste, the smoothness of the liquid in your mouth. Any time you are being fully present you are allowing your true self to express, let that be the main goal.
