Purpose Through The Process

How do we find our purpose in life.

By Rives TawnyPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

There are times in life when we wonder what our purpose is. We wonder because when we are born, we are molded in the image of our parents. We are taught to think as they think and want what they want because they don’t realize that we were born with a purpose of our own. Parents don’t understand that there is a fine line between instilling values and allowing us to follow our own dreams to fulfill our own purpose and destiny. Its like we are born and given direction to become what our parents didn’t, and then on day we grow up and realize that is not what we want for ourselves; we are confused on what it is we do want because we want to be ourselves without hurting the ones we love. So how is it that we find our purpose? How is it that we define who we are without intentionally hurting the ones we love? Do we understand that we are unique, fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of Christ designed with a plan and purpose for our lives?

Its not easy trying to figure out who one is in a world that is so tainted by lies and deception. A world full of bribes and illusions. A world that one year thin is in and that next fat is the new thin. A world where right is considered wrong and wrong considered right. So, how do we determine our purpose? Could it be that we listen to our inner child and the things that make us happy yet don’t go against God and the purpose we were born for? Like some dream of being doctors, lawyers, mothers, public servants, and so much more. Could it be that our childhood dreams are really visions of who we are meant to be? Why then do we discount our dreams? How do we lose our way when the dreams and visions are so clear?

One way we discount and don’t believe could be because we have never had anyone tell us that we need to believe in ourselves, and that we can be whatever it is we desire to be. Another could be that we talk too much. We allow others who see the potential they lack in themselves talk us out of our purpose. The reality is they have the same potential and just don’t see it because they never had anyone believe in them. It’s like a vicious circle…a generational curse. Each generation lacking the ability to pour into the next because they were never poured into. So how do we break this cycle? How do we find our purpose?

We find our purpose and break cycles in our dreams, visions, gifts, and talents. We find our purpose in the things that drive us to be better. The things that make us feel as if we have accomplished something and made a difference in someone’s life. The things that we would do without worrying about monetary gain just because we love doing them that much. When we do that, we discover just who it is that we are and walk in our purpose. We become purposeful instead of thinking and believing we have no purpose because of the curses placed on our lives from birth.

Don’t get me wrong noting in life comes without challenges. We all must go through some tings to get to some things so that we are able to help others along the way. Nothing in life comes easy however its all worth it in the end. The biggest challenge is to believe in who we are and never give up. Never give up on ourselves or the dreams and visions that live within us. Never give up no matter what it looks like, sounds like, tastes like, and no matter what anyone else has to say. I heard a friend say it best,” the cemetery is where one finds a lot of dead purpose. People’s purpose died along with them because they gave up on their dreams, visions, and purpose.”
