My Dream

If you have ever watched the movie "Pretty Woman", there is a scene in there when a happy go lucky guy is walking down Hollywood Blvd and says that famous iconic quote: "Welcome to Hollywood, everyone who comes to Hollywood has a dream. What's your dream?"

I will admit that every time I watch that movie, I get a tingling feeling inside of like anything is possible. My dream ever since I was six years old was to be in Hollywood. I knew that with every single movie that I watched and while watching my favorite movie of all time: Gone with the Wind (Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable come on) , I knew that I had to make my dream into a reality.

Having grown up within southern CA, I had the world of Hollywood pratically as my next door neighbor. However, it felt like how a "normie" lives next door to a famous person, you do not truly know your neighbor as much as you would like to. That was how I felt with Hollywood. It was my neighbor in a sense but knew nothing about them or how to even step foot into their home.

I used to wonder also about the famous children of these actors, actresses, writers, directors, producers, and how lucky they were to have access to these contacts and the amazing content that their parents would put out. You hear stories about actors tell entertainment journalists and news outlets that their children are completely unfazed and uninterested in their work. To this day that statement cuts a core with me because as someone looking in from the outside, it seems as though the children are ungrateful for the advantages that they have upon normal children. They have been given everything and they seem to care less. For me, (I can only speak for myself here) I would invest every amount of energy I had into practicing my mom or dad's script lines, improvising scene techniques, giving good notes, asking them about their famous friends and their scandals back in the day that my parents would make me swear to never repeat to any news tabloid. I always secretly wanted that and not that I would ever trade my parents for anything because I would cut a bitch and tear them limb from limb if they ever hurt them, but just to experience that and have the stories.

Since that did not happen to me and in most ways I am so glad it did not, I had to come up with other ways to make my way over to my neighbor's house. I used to do plays when I was little thinking that could by my ticket in, I was quite good but felt my imposter syndrome coming in and telling me that I was not good enough and that no one would take me seriously. I have since learned that it was all in my head and that the only person's behavior that we can control is oursleves.

So I went to school and did internships and then went back to school and eventually landed a job at a talent agency. Now I will not bore you since this story was in my first blog post but I quickly realized that I loved reading and evaluating script coverage. Being one of the first people to read a script pilot before the audience gets to see the actual pilot made me feel like the most important and powerful people in the world. It was like I had this secret that the whole world didn't know and it felt amazing.

My dream is to development: write, read, and create. What I love the most about movies and television is the backstory that the characters have. I love when multiple shows gets seasons because it gives us as the audience the chance to learn more about them-you get to know certain things about them and that is how audience resonates with certain attributes and characteristics of the characters. They may have their flaws and do good and bad things but we realize that they are human and doing what they can to enterain us. I want to do that for people. I want to give them the magic that I grew up. I want them to have their own dreams to make into reality.

While I am still working on making my dream a reality, writing out my thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions is something that I encourage all to do. I may still be working on my dream, but getting out your ideas and typing them out feels like I am making strides in my dream and gearing towards that reality that I long for so much.

It has been quite the process but I know that God has a purpose for me and it is to relinquish these dreams from my head and to get out there and do something. Keep fighting the Good Fight ( I hope someone knows what I am taking about here ha) and let anyone tell you that you cannot do something or will not make it. Believe me, it just gives you the determination and the balls to prove them wrong.
