Morning coffee.. hmm.. this moment right here, right now is delightful. The wonderful aroma of coffee fills your home, the morning sun streaming softly through the window, and silence, as you watch the birds in the tree outside. And sound is absorbed by the first snow of the season. Your tastebuds flourished with the exquisite taste of your warm caffeinated beverage that you have cupped between your palms. The window is cold, so you pull a soft, cozy blanket over your lap. Just gazing out the window, early morning, watching a car or two and even a snow plow go by and geese in the sky heading south. One sip after another, and you hear padded feet excitedly trotting towards you and a wet nose greeting you. “Looks like someone finally woke up, Good morning sweet girl!” You say softly. Resting your hand on her head, she rests her head on your lap and joins you. Watching the world beyond the window.
Fully relaxed, cozy and warm, cupping your coffee. The sun offering all the warmth it can give. Focused on enjoying this moment, for the day ahead is full of tasks in need of getting done. You go for another beautiful sip, but Oh No! it's empty! Intrusive thoughts begin to fill your head, anxious. Making small imaginary to do lists. The warmth of the morning disrupted by the need to find a pen, for not to forget the things you must do today. The sun has past and the sky fills with light grey clouds excited to snow again. Already beginning your busy day, putting your mug in the sink. Reminding you the dishes need to be done. Dog needs breakfast and a potty break. Remember to buy more cream for the coffee… oh and while you’re at the store, you have a list. While you’re out remember to stop by— Breathe. Take it one step at a time, make your list and approach with ease and not anxiety. Wait a second. Look out the window, it’s snowing. Look how peacefully and quietly the snow falls. Slow down.
Everything is temporary. Every moment, every life, every morning coffee is only temporary. Life is full. Full of moments, of love, of relaxation, of busy times. Full of adventure and happiness. Full of downfalls and sadness. Full of surprises like an unexpected blanket of snow to wake up too. Full of embarrassments and awkwardness. You can choose to be only but a bystander to your own life, watching and waiting without taking any chances. Or life can be so full and exciting, full of emotion, full of morning coffee moments. Always remember that, good or bad, it is not going to last forever. So you may mourn a temporary moment or may be grateful it has passed. Learn to have a sense of humor when it comes to the bad ones and nothing will ever seem that bad. These moments are meant to teach us and help us grow, be grateful for whatever kind of moment it may be. You may miss the chance to learn that lesson or enjoy that moment ever again. Don’t leave a stone unturned, follow your heart, take the unbeaten path and whatever cliche you can think of! Respond to that voice in the back of your head, aching for you to take action. That voice wants the best for you. Life is meant to be lived! Live mindfully and presently, we don’t want valuable moments slipping by. So grab on to those bittersweet moments when life seems too good to be true because those moments are only temporary.
