Monday

The most hated day of the week.

By Corene TorresPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

It is indeed a magnificent and marvelous Monday. The election is over and only God knows if there is any hope for the United States of America. I did not like either candidate. I don’t think I have liked a single candidate in over a decade. I am not even sure an old school cartel boss could help us at this point, although it would be very interesting. So, I will take on the Texas spirit of "In God we trust" and pray, a lot. Politics aside these bills don’t pay themselves. We are embarking on a fresh week, fresh goals, fresh opportunities and hopefully fresh underwear because that’s important. While you’re at it, put on some fresh socks. It is getting colder outside and no one wants to smell your feet.

A technique I use when I am giving feedback to my sales agents or goal setting with them, is focusing on one thing. Doing one thing is much easier then taking on an entire to do list. The key is focusing on the one thing that will ultimately impact multiple things. Goal setting just turned into dominoes. That goal can be as simple as going to bed 30 minutes earlier or waking up 15 minutes earlier. It could be leaving for work 15 minutes earlier or if you work from home then starting whatever process you go through when initiating your work day 15 minutes earlier. We’ve all heard the Geico commercial, we know what 15 minutes can do. Another goal could be exercising 20 minutes a day or walking around the block. That one healthy habit will lead to more healthy habits. One productive habit can lead to more productive habits. I am an extremist by nature and it goes against my nature to strive for singular goals. I want it all and I and it right now. I imagine I’d drive a Buddhist monk crazy. It is no wonder I fail miserably at yoga. I set a single goal and then my mind immediately goes there. I can see the dominoes in my head. If I do this then this will happen and then that will happen and then I can do this and that. Save yourself from this way of thinking. So many times, I have done this and then I get so overwhelmed I give up and then nothing gets done and a month later I am still trying to figure out what the hell happened. Keep it simple and focus on one goal. The few times that I have successfully just focused on a singular goal, I have found success. Your goal just might be sticking to one goal. It might be to not curse someone out or not go off on a coworker. It might be to not run over your boss this week. Whatever the goal, set it and stick to it.

We can’t control the world out there. Wake up early, wake up late, the world is still going mad and steadily self-thrusting into an apocalypse. I refuse to depend on the climate of our nation to determine my well being be it spiritually, physically, emotionally or financially. I determine my own well being on all levels. You determine your own well being. I think it was Jim Rohn who said “If you really want to do something you will find a way, if not you will find an excuse.” Don’t be that person that complains about the same thing over and over again and ten years later everyone around you is dodging conversations with you like they are dodging bullets. It takes a lot of energy to be unhappy and to complain all the time. I speak from experience. Don’t focus on what you don’t have. Be grateful for what you have and then set a goal to get more. Don’t focus on all the things that are wrong with you. Be proud of how far you have come and strive to better. We can be our own worst critics. I know I am. If I had to stand before a judge and I was the judge, I’d be forever damned. Thankfully, I am not a judge and as far as I know I have no court dates so singular goals it is. Getting better on all levels, one day at a time and one week at a time. One goal people, just one simple goal. The more you do, the more you do and the less you do, the less you do. What you do is up to you.
