Seven Things I've Learned Since Becoming an 'Adult'
Before I start writing about my "seven things" I would just like to say, without hesitation, 10-year-old me (the innocent little sh*thead) took being young for granted, walking around thinking becoming older was somehow going to make me cooler. Somehow, I would magically make all kinds of money, which at the time, some change from my grandma's purse seemed like a LOT to me. (Silly little naive girl) That my life would be prodigious, full of new adventures, surrounded by friends. Instead, the highlight of my day could be anything from getting new soap to taking a much needed nap. If I could travel anywhere in time... for any reason at all, I'd most likely go back in time.... and punch younger me.

Seeking Fulfillment: Acknowledgement, Engagement, and Preciousness
I've spoken many times about dealing with personal stress and unforeseen circumstances in and out of the workplace, dealing with them while in the presence of others, while you're by yourself, and in many other scenarios. Two days ago I got the opportunity to sit down and listen to a few of my peers talk about some of the things that were weighing on their mind like ongoing illnesses, emotional distress or having to leave family and children nearly every day to do what they loved to do for a living; despite all of these difficulties. Our initial exchange dealt with these and also being able to identify the real motivation behind their actions. In doing so and detailing our perspectives, I learned that many of them, if not all, had a misconception about the power of acknowledgement.

Coffee Pot
The smell of coffee brewing in the morning is probably one of my top 5 favorite smells. Something about it is comforting. Coffee and oatmeal cookies is what you'd smell every morning on Catalina Island. You couldn't pass up walking into The Cookie Company once that smell hit you.

Charities
Whom to give to? Everybody wants donations. Church? Private schools? The poor? Those sad-eyed dogs on TV? What is behind some donations? A leg up, perhaps? This is where my world turns black and white. Donating money is serious business for me. I don't have a lot, but when I give—I give with my heart. Donating to private schools and pet projects is all well and good, but these are not what you think of when you hear the word "charity."

5 Reasons You Should Consider Long Term Volunteering
Growing up, I volunteered at local soup kitchens, domestic violence shelters, school events, and community service projects. The best part is nobody made me, I chose to volunteer my time for good causes. In this day and age most people send money to organizations or projects they support and while that's great and surely appreciated, people who can't donate financially can donate something just as important and needed- their time!

Volunteer Work
I have several ideas on how to volunteer my time in my city. I can become a volunteer reading tutor, which would be a great experience to add to my resume. I need to do something with my time besides writing. I also need to join city council at some point. The library also needs library service volunteers, which I can also do. I’m looking to do something with my time daily besides my career readiness classes. I want to join my homeowners' association group for example. I can also take a disaster readiness class because I really need to put together a disaster readiness kit before the next earthquake hits. I was also thinking about starting up a routine with volunteering for NAMI.

How To Change Your World
We all want to make the world a better place (except on those days where we wouldn't mind watching it burn, either), but such a concept seems impossible and nostalgic, at best. Corruption, fraud, human selfishness, and an endless cycle of pain often seem to crush any effort to try and stop the sky from falling, and the political and spiritual leaders who say they are here to help often end up doing us more harm than good. However, I'm not here to sell snake oil or tell you of a balm from some middle eastern shore, but I am here to say that there is a way for you to make a real and lasting difference in the world. That is. Your world.

It's Time to Serve
In life, we are always told that we need to grow up and make a difference in our world to make it a better place. And many people choose to "serve" our country and our world by joining the military. But what if there were other ways to serve?

Becoming an Adult Far from Everything—Pt. II
One year ago, I took the plane to cross the ocean. Six hours later, I was in another dimension: North America. Quite a big deal for an 18-year-old boy who has never lived far from his family. I was unconscious. I did not even know what I was doing… However, I did it.

Secure Every Loving Foundation
Self love teaches us how to love the world. Our mind works like an energy conductor and as such it creates assumptions about the energy of what is happening and then projects its interpretations out onto the world around us so we can watch it play back to us and teach us what we most need to learn, but most people are not aware of this even being possible. We see everything in its literal sense as our reactive self does the best it can to interpret the data until we cross the inner bridge to see things symbolically instead. This can happen gradually or in stages that are quite abrupt and we will find afterwards that we were fully prepared by life for these crossings and stages but while we are actually undertaking them, we usually feel completely unprepared. Driven by an instinctual reaction called "fear," we bounce through life like a pinball being buffeted off flippers and bumpers, tilted and smacked until we make our way determinedly through the playing field. Our mettle is tested many times before we get where we want to be and rest in the socket of our own love. There are ways to change this process but how do we earn them if our culture has no idea how to teach us either?

How Watching the Sunset Daily Changed My Life...
Let’s face it: school is stressful AF. Especially when you have to arrive every other morning at 7:15 for high school jazz band, throughout the day possessing a serious lack of spare classes (um, more like none), and stay in prison until 4:30 for musical practices.
