Lane the Tarot Reader

I typically have no problem thinking of something creative to challenge myself to. However, I find myself at a loss for what I should do. Or at least what I should focus on. I have what feels like a million ideas in my head, all fighting for the spot light. And while the easiest one to focus on is my writing. It almost feels too easy.

And this year I want to go deeper, because I don’t want to always pick the surface level answer. Especially when I am going into 2025 with the hopes to turn some of my creative hobbies into some proper side hustles for myself. And while vocal is one of these potential places of interest. I am not sure on what to do more of and less of. I do want to write and publish a book, even if it’s a poetry book. But every year I talk about how I am going to improve my writing, I start out strong and then I completely fall of the wagon as soon as I don’t get my way. Well I have goals to get back on the wagon, and goals to learn from failures instead of seeing them as the end of a dream. It just isn’t the creative bean I feel like writing about.

I’m actually think a lot more about the tarot reading business I want to start. And have started to make an attempt on. I have all these thoughts on how to achieve this. How I can market the readings and how I can make it into a blog as well. Because even though I would like people to buy my readings, I also want to spread some more information around about tarot cards. Show people that Hollywood has marketed them completely wrong, and expand on the availability of deeper knowledge.

Because well I want to fulfil the nature of my own creativity, I also want it to do something for others as well. Even if it is just providing additional knowledge. But I am going to need a plan.

Goal: To create a blog styled business where I can educate people on the world of tarot and provide readings as well.

Steps I have taken:

1. Created a Facebook page to start immediately posting and letting people know about me selling readings.

2. Started posting more readings on TIKTOK. For general viewers.

3. Looked into different sites as a means to create a place for business. SO far I have created a Patron as this seems the easiest way to combine a blog and shop together.

Things I need to do.

1. Research trend for tarot markets. What kind of readings are people buying?

2. Look into other site options and see what may be the best idea.

3. I have a free trial of skill share. This could provide me with some tools for business stagey and how to create a website.

4. Stick with creating content even if people are not buying.

Things to Consider.

1. People can do their own readings. So I have to give them a reason they would want to get a reading from me, especially if I am also providing fee blog posts. Maybe I can post the blog portion on vocal? And that can help me with making some money there. But then I have to consider running to sites.

2. I have to promote myself. Even thought I do not like doing this at all. How is anyone going to know I am offering a service if I don’t promote it.

3. It is likely to be a slow start, so we have to think long term. This is not going to be a quick and easy way to make additional money.

4. Expect to have some failings and learning curves.

It would seem I have a solid base idea of what I would like to do. But I have no idea how to run or set up a business. I work a classical 9-5 job. So this is a huge deal. And a hefty goal to try and do. Usually I challenge myself to write a poem once a week. Learn a new skill or new hobby and then I call it a day. I did my creative thing for the year and I can just keep on reading and writing the occasional poem on Vocal. But the time I feel different. I’m not in survival mode anymore. And as a result, I have so many thoughts and ideas.

This is the first goal I have were it could be a huge success, or an ultimate fail. People are likely to call me a scam. Friends and family are likely to judge me. I mean come on I have only had one friend support this so far. And I am not a nepo baby by any means. I don’t have someone willing to hand me a bunch of money to dive into this and make some mass online business. All I have is me and my own keyboard…. And unlimited access to the internet.

I am way out of my league on this one.

But if I do this, not only do I get to pursue two passions: reading and writing. I get to announce to the world, hey I am a witch. I think tarot cards are entertaining and insightful. I get to really dive into the magical side of myself. And if I have learned anything about magic, it is that it requires some creativity. And even if you want to call magic something else, psychology, a coping mechanism, manifestation or quantum physical, it’s still allowing me to access this new sense of creativity within me. And do things I would have never thought to do.

And yes the new age trends are helping me with this as well. Because past Lane would have dreamed about writing a novel and maybe making it big doing something she like. But now I’ve realized that I can try a whole host of things… I don’t have to stay with one thing…. and I am not a failure if I decide that this project doesn’t end up being for me.

But I do believe; that through the creative outlook of trying something completely new, will allow me to grow and learn. Furthering my own set of skills and providing me with a solid take away, no matter the end result. Just like all the science experiments and essays of my past use to do.
