How does the Law of Attraction actually work?

You are more powerful than you think.

By Monica PanaitPublished 6 years ago 4 min read

In the past few years the popularity of the Law of Attraction has been increasing significantly. I remember when I first came across the documentary that completely changed my life.

I did not know that at the time. I did not know how much of an impact those words will eventually have on me.

It was probably in 2011 when one of my friends introduced me with the documentary and happily explained to me the main principles that the law of attraction is based upon. I have to admit that at the time to me it sounded like complete bullshit, a total lie. Oh, how wrong I could be.

It started with attracting a certain person just to see if it actually works. Spoiler alert: it worked. Now looking back I see that everything worked.

But how does this law actually work? What is so special about it?

If I could summarise this whole thing in 6 sentences, those sentences would definitely be the following:

1. Everyone has the power to use the law of attraction. But not everyone knows how powerful they are, how much they can achieve just by believing and using their imagination a bit. There might some people out there who do not even realise they are using the law of attraction and thinking they are only getting lucky. Personally, I do not believe in luck.. or coincidences as a matter of fact.

2. See the results and feel the feels. Undoubtedly the most important step in using the law of attraction is the visualisation process which implies imagining you are already where you want to be and you already feel what you want to feel. Personally, the "feeling" part is the hardest for me sometimes. How can one fake an emotion like this? How can one feel happiness when there is no apparent reason for that? What I have to say about this is: fake it til` you make it. "Tricking" your brain into believing you are happy will have a long-term effect on your mental state. As well, the visualisation process, when you are imagining the result, will plant into your mind an objective towards which your brain or your subconscious mind will constantly work, and your conscious mind will not even be aware of that. You might go to sleep one night thinking about some plan you have for the next day, and then wake up in the morning with a fresh new idea in your mind. This is the power of the subconscious mind.

3. Negative attracts negative, positive attracts positive. Yes, it is that simple. When you are constantly worrying and crying about your problems, you will eventually attract more situations that lead to those feelings. On the other hand, when you are full of love and happiness, with no doubt you will attract positive experiences or people that bring more happiness into your life.

4. Practice gratitude. Another important aspect of this law is practising gratitude on a daily basis. You will never be able to fully benefit from the law of attraction unless you practise gratitude. Of course, there is something in your life that is missing. You either lost your job and you are looking for a new one, you need more money or your partner just broke up with you. There is always something missing from your life. But what about all the good things you have? What about your friends and family who support you? What about the fact that you are strong and healthy? There is always something that you should be grateful for, something that you are not even thinking about, even those small things that you might be taking for granted. Focus on the positive side of your life and the negative side will follow.

5. Your thoughts are your puppets . But how can someone monitor their thoughts 24/7? We are only humans and this can not be done all the time. We have to think about the pile of bills we have to pay, about the job we just lost. And we should. We definitely should think about our problems. What matters is how we are thinking about them. Because looking on the bills on your desk and worrying about how you are going to pay them will not bring you anything good. But staying as calm as possible, making a plan and having practical ideas about solving that issue will definitely get you somewhere you want to be. Have a little faith in you. You can do it.

6. Meditation is key. Maybe you have heard about meditation before, or maybe you are already practising it. Meditation not only helps you to relax, but it also helps your subconscious mind to come up with new ideas and solutions to your problems. The society we live in today is constantly "throwing" information at us which can be useful, but it can also prevent us from seeing what actually matters. By meditation you are "blocking the noise" and allowing your mind to help you. So find a comfortable space in your house, light up some incense sticks, put on some relaxing music and give your mind the break it deserves. It will reward you.

Never stop believing!
