Hassan and His Hens
"How a Kind Heart and One Hen Changed Everything"

Hassan was a poor man who lived in a small village named Noorabad. His life was simple, but very hard. He lived alone in a small mud house with only one room. There was no fan, no bed, not even proper clothes to wear. He had no land, no animals, and very little food to eat. Every morning, he would walk through the village, hoping someone would give him some work.
Sometimes, he helped farmers in their fields. Other times, he carried heavy water buckets for old women or chopped wood for cooking. People liked him because he never lied, never stole, and always said “thank you,” even when he earned only a few rupees. But deep inside, Hassan felt very sad. He wanted to change his life. He wanted to live with dignity and help others too.
One day, something strange happened. While walking near the forest, Hassan heard a soft clucking sound. He followed the sound and saw a hen lying in the grass. The poor hen was injured. Its leg was hurt and some feathers were missing. Hassan felt sorry for the bird.
“Come with me, little hen,” he said kindly.
He took the hen home, gave it water, and fed it some old rice he had saved. He also cleaned its leg and made a soft place for it to rest. Days passed, and the hen got better. She started walking again and even followed Hassan around the house. Then, one morning, she laid an egg.
Hassan was very happy. He boiled the egg and ate it for breakfast. It was warm and delicious. The next day, the hen laid another egg. This time, he did not eat it. He walked to the village market and sold the egg for a small amount of money. That night, he could afford to buy more rice and some lentils.
Hassan thought to himself, “If I take care of this hen, she will keep laying eggs. I can sell them and maybe buy another hen. Slowly, I can build a better life.”
So he saved the money from selling eggs and bought a second hen. Then a third. He built a small wooden coop behind his house. Every morning, he cleaned the coop and fed the hens with grains and water. He treated them with care, and in return, they gave him eggs every day.
Months went by. Hassan had ten hens. Then twenty. Then fifty. He bought a bicycle with a basket to carry eggs to the big market in town. People there loved his fresh eggs and trusted his honest smile.
After three years, Hassan had more than 500 hens. He bought a piece of land outside the village and built a proper poultry farm. He gave jobs to other poor villagers, especially those who had no work before. He trained them, paid them fairly, and treated them like family.
Hassan became rich, but he stayed humble. He never forgot the injured hen who gave him his first egg. He started a small school for village children and gave free eggs to families who couldn’t afford food. He helped young people start their own small hen businesses, teaching them what he had learned.
One day, a news reporter came to the village to write about him.
“How did you become successful, Hassan?” she asked.
Hassan smiled and said, “I didn’t wait for luck. I believed in small beginnings. One egg can change a life, if you take care of it and work hard.”
The story of Hassan and his hens spread far and wide. People came from many places to meet him—not just to buy eggs, but to learn from his journey.
Hassan’s life taught everyone that no dream is too small. Even the poorest person can rise, if they believe in themselves and never give up.
