Giving up is something we've all struggled with at some point. Whether it's a job, a person or even a relationship. Whatever it is we've all struggled with it. I know I have. Why do we want to give up? Is it because we're impatient? Is it because we're being held back by someone or something. Or are we just scared? What I mean by that is that we all have challenges in life to tackle and things that will shake us up. We have to go through things that will make us stronger. When things get hard we sometimes get tempted to give up. We sometimes want to just forget it because we expect things to be simple and a clear straight forward path. But that's not life. Life is not a straight forward path. Life has valleys and hills. Things do not happen in a streamline. We expect things to just happen without challenges and setbacks. That's not realistic.
I've struggled with this idea for a very long time. I've struggled with impatience and wanting to give up on things I'm working on because it's not happening fast enough or not happening in a way that I would like. I often struggled with this idea. I have to work on debunking that ideal. I'm working on understanding that things take time and things have to happen a certain way in order to teach you a lesson. And sometimes things have to happen to ruin you so that you can come back stronger then before. Have you ever seen Eat Pray Love?
Have you seen that part where Elizabeth talks about ruin being a gift? Ruin is the road to transformation. So if you're feeling ruined it's a gift and you shouldn't give up on yourself. You may in fact be tempted but when whatever it is that you're dealing with or working through is done; you'll feel so much better. You'll be glad you didn't give up, you'll understand why things had to happen the way they did. You'll understand why you couldn't give up even if you may have wanted to. You'll find peace knowing you did everything you could to make things happen and even though you had setbacks you still got there.
Now you're certainly allowed to ask for help. Sometimes we can't get places on our own or can't do things on our own and that's okay! But if we were to give up, would we regret it? Would we regret not seeing things through? Would we regret giving up? Would we regret not finishing things we're working on? Maybe we would. I think we'd regret it more if we gave up rather then trying and things not working out. If we try to do something and it doesn't work out despite our best efforts that's much different then giving up. Maybe some things aren't meant to happen for us. Or maybe things aren't meant to happen at that particular time. We have to trust the universe and understand that things aren't happening to us rather their happening for us. Perhaps there is a bigger plan for us. Maybe we have a story line that we're following?
So if we were to give up we wouldn't have the feeling of accomplishing things and seeing things through. We'd regret it more if we didn't try. So giving up is not worth it. It may in fact be tempting to give up when we get impatient or not seeing results right away. But giving up isn't worth it. We'll be much happier if we didn't give up rather then if we did.
