Every Day I'm a New Person

Making decisions means marking the path of our lives, are we doing it in the best way?

At the end of the day, it can be frustrating to look back and wonder what more we could have done. Sometimes it feels like no time has passed at all, and we are back in bed, counting sheep again. During the day we’re forced to make decisions every minute of every hour. These decisions result in who we are and who we will become. Though it’s difficult to realize this in the moment, making better decisions adds value and meaning to our days and life.

I once had a friend that would tell me that months feel like days and days feel like months. Sometimes at 1 in the afternoon you wonder if the work day will ever end. But when you look back and see a picture of yourself from an earlier time, you wonder where time has gone.

Life is short, don’t get me wrong. It’s normal to wish that we didn’t age or to hear a story about the fountain of youth, and wish that it existed so we could take a few years back or cheat an imminent death. But there are days that drag on and every choice between doing or not doing something will add up to results that we sometimes don’t care to notice.

Speaking of these choices, falling into bad habits is as easy as doing something easy instead of something hard. It can get to the point where even getting out of bed at a decent time becomes something irregular or difficult to accomplish. Something a friend of mine always says is that comfort is a very bad guide. I often think about that when I get what I believe to be well deserved leisure time. Is it worth it to do nothing for hours at a time just in the name of relaxation? Under the right circumstances I supposed it could be, but most of the time we have better things to do.

Maintaining healthy relationships with friends and/or family is something that can help us make more of these daily decisions correctly. Maybe there isn’t even a “correct” way to make them but I’m referring to making more productive decisions that will lead to a happier, healthier sense of self. One that looks back at the end of the day proud of what has been accomplished.

Simply realizing the potential that we have can change the way that we walk our path on a daily basis. We can do so much more, if we have patience and are willing to put in the effort.

Sometimes I don’t want to work, study, or do anything that would mean giving up meaningful time that I can’t get back. But I realize that life quickly begins to feel like too much when I have nothing to put my effort into. Every sunrise and sunset feels the same and I’m alone with my thoughts. My thoughts become unproductive and dull. They lose hope and so do I. It’s important to have things to look forward to. This could be work, meeting up with someone you know, a goal you’re working towards, etc…

Filling your life with meaning can be easy as wanting something and trying to get it. Although meaning can change depending on the person and by culture as well. Keeping busy makes it easy to lie down at night knowing that there’s more to do tomorrow. By making positive, productive decisions we start a chain reaction of positive productive thoughts and habits. This is a chain reaction that leads to a fulfilling life.
