The world of a collage is a timepiece, energy capsule, and matter of the heart. With each cut, material, and placement is a measured element, handcrafted for enjoyment and exploration. As an artist and meditation teacher, as well as a world explorer, the key to life is truly finding how to enjoy every moment. Overcoming challenges and the mundane, as well as synthesizing something from nothing is best created from a state of joy.
As you immerse yourself in the world of “Enjoy Every Moment,” you island hop from letter to letter, soaking in the essence of each land and its culture. Each land has its twists and turns, a depth and texture of its own. As you traverse the scenery, the viewer is transported to many lands where I have lived from my roots in San Antonio, Texas, to family vacations at the Gulf Coast of Texas, college in Virginia and San Francisco, my current home base of Tampa, Florida, and time spent abroad in London, England, and Paris, France. Steeping oneself in the cultures and vibrancy of different lands is good for the soul and shows you that life is better with diversity and seeing all moments through the lens of love.
Life is a rich tapestry of tastes, sounds, and sensations that make you feel grateful to be alive in this unique lifetime. No matter which antagonists might knock at your metaphorical door, there is a way to keep cool and moving forward. With each breath and mindful movement we can create more life. In these moments of pause, in these blank spaces we can regain our composure and find joy in even the smallest things. A cup of hot tea, a yoga stretch, a reflection on past heartfelt cards and special gift wrap elevates our emotional state.
Collectively, each letter becomes a part of a greater whole, inspiring onlookers to enjoy every moment. Tune in to things small and big to find the joy in even the most basic things and your life will change for the better beyond measure. Seeing and being from this upgraded lens is a gift we can all attain.
Through the process of making this collage, I gathered favorite maps, stickers, jewels, found objects, and parts, and made them better with scissors that helped me to craft them in the shape of each letter. Some materials are extra thick and needed the power of Fiskars to shape them to the curves and length of each letter. I particularly enjoy making collages on holidays, and this one was completed on Thanksgiving. Scissors, industrial glue, markers, and an openness to unlock my creative expression are the tools of my trade. Then it is all about stepping into the flow of where the materials speak to me for placement and giving the viewer surprises by flipping items on their head or creating unique geographies with their placement.
Making art is key to my spirit and having the right tools on hand empowers me to go deeper in the flow to a place of serene joy. I learned the art of creativity from my mom, who prizes her Fiskar scissors for amazing sewing projects and always keeps them in a special drawer. From making clothes for my sister and I to making unique art collages herself, our scissor game has always been strong. My mom educated us firsthand about these arts and showed us the joy of creation from a very young age.
Now it is my honor to bring joy to people with my art and meditation classes, showing them how to turn each moment into a gift, because it truly is. Joy helps upgrade the familiar, the everyday into the extraordinary. Our shared world of moments is better together with joy, creativity, and consciousness at the helm.
