Draupadi Murmu:From Humble Beginnings to India's First Tribal Woman President.
Success Story of a Tribal Woman.

Our country's India population exceeds 300 million and it is the most culturally diverse nation in the world. People of all religions and races call it home. Despite such diversity, the constitution emphasizes equality and opportunity. However, true equality will only exist when those who have been excluded from the mainstream are appointed to important positions in the administration and government. The 2022 Presidential election demonstrated this equality, making us proud and serving as an inspiration to all democratic countries worldwide.
Today, we will discuss the life, success, and political career of Dropadi Murmu, who is set to become the President of our country. Born on June 20, 1958, in the Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha, Dropadi hails from a tribal family. Her father and grandfather were both involved in politics related to the Panchayati Raj system. After completing her primary and secondary education, she began her career as a school teacher and worked as an Assistant Professor at the Sri Aurobindo Institute in Rayagada, Odisha.
In addition to her teaching career, Dropadi also worked as a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation Department of the Government of Odisha before entering politics. In 1997, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested for the post of councilor from Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat, from where she was elected and held the responsibility as the chairperson of the same panchayat for the next two years. Seeing her activism in politics, she was made the National Vice President of the Scheduled Tribal Front of BJP.
Dropadi took her political career to the next level by standing for the post of MLA in the 2000 Odisha Assembly Elections and was elected as MLA from Rairangpur Assembly Constituency. From March 2000 to 2002, she was entrusted with the responsibility of the Minister of Commerce and Transport Department, and since 2002, she also handled the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department. In recognition of her work during her tenure as a member of the Legislative Assembly, Dropadi was awarded the Neelkanth Award for Best MLA.
After this, she was elected as MLA again in 2004, and from 2006 to 2009, Dropadi continued to work as the BJP President of Mayurganj District as well as the State President of the BJP Scheduled Tribal Front. Everything was going well in Dropadi's political life until she suffered some significant personal setbacks. In 2009, her son died due to an accident, which affected her mental health and left her in depression for a long time.
Shortly after this, in 2013, she lost her second son, and after a few months, her husband also passed away. It is natural for anyone to go into depression after these incidents. According to Dropadi, she joined the Brahma Kumari organization to get out of this mental depression zone, which helped her significantly. After overcoming this situation, she resumed working towards her goal of serving the public, and on May 18, 2015, she was sworn in as the governor of Jharkhand.
This oath of Dropadi was not only a matter of pride for her community, but it was also a matter of pride for the entire tribal community of Odisha because Dropadi Murmu was the first woman tribal from Odisha to be appointed as a governor. Dropadi was also the first woman to assume the responsibility as the governor of Jharkhand. Her oath-taking as the governor became a matter of pride for women as well.
After completing her term as governor, Dropadi was nominated by the NDA for the election of President of India 2022, making her the first tribal woman to hold the top.
Draupadi Murmu's life story is an inspiring tale of resilience, determination, and a relentless pursuit of one's goals. She overcame personal tragedies and emerged stronger, more focused, and more committed to serving the people. Her journey is a testimony to the fact that even in a country as diverse as India, where people from different communities, religions, and castes live, anyone can rise to the highest position if they have the talent, dedication, and hard work.
Born into a tribal family in Odisha, Draupadi's father and grandfather were actively involved in politics related to the Panchayati Raj system. After completing her education, she started her career as a school teacher and later became an assistant professor at the Sri Aurobindo Institute in Rayagada, Odisha. Her experience in the field of education gave her a deep understanding of the issues faced by the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society.
