Donating To A Worthy Cause
Best Disaster Relief Charities

‘Tis the season for giving to those in need. A charity is an organization that operates to benefit the public to serve the common good. Their primary objective is philanthropy and social well-being. All money raised by a charity must go towards their goal of helping others. Every year Americans donate around $450 billion. Today, there are more than 1.5 million recognized charities in the country. Disaster relief charities are privately owned or government-funded organizations that are dedicated to providing assistance after a disaster. Here is what I feel are the best disaster charities and what they do to help others.
Direct Relief

Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization. Direct Relief has a longstanding approach to providing essential health services throughout the world. It is the largest charity medical program in the US. Their mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies. They work on equipping healthcare professionals in poor communities with training and supplies like N95 masks. Through their health efforts, they give out medical kits to help educate others and medical packs to those first responders.
Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational, evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, poverty, disasters, disease, and famine. Their international crisis response teams meet the critical needs of the victims around the world. Often times they work through ministry partners on the ground through strategically placed warehouses to provide food, water, shelter, and medicine all through the name of Jesus. They are known for multiple ongoing charitable projects, but their biggest claim to fame is Operation Christmas Child. A project where people fill up empty shoeboxes with snacks and toys for those less fortunate.

Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves around the world before, during, and after a disaster. They stay strong and support ongoing recovery efforts until long after everyone has moved on with their lives. Their vision is to support humanity and build resiliency for vulnerable communities. Founded by US Marine Corps Veteran Jake Wood in 2010, his group of volunteers, known as the Greyshirts, boldly step up to serve communities with their swiftness, coordination, and relentlessness. Their urge to act serves as their M.O. in any disaster since many are veterans themselves.
Mercy Corps

As conflict escalates, the urge for humanitarian aid is needed more than ever. Mercy Corps is a global team that serves on the front lines of today’s crises. They bring a comprehensive approach to every challenge they face, coming up with viable solutions that make lasting changes for the better within a community. They have a steadfast belief that communities are the best agent for their own change. Mercy Corps works alongside these communities, providing rapid relief in the wake of a disaster and they manage the effects of climate change and conflict.
Convoy Of Hope

When founder Hal Donaldson’s father died in a car accident, he began struggling to make ends meet. Through the kindness of his neighbors, he could pull himself and his family through those tough times. This event is what led him to create the Convoy Of Hope. Convoy Of Hope is a faith-based charity that serves those who are impoverished, hungry, and hurting. From earthquakes to droughts, they provide both relief and a helping hand. They have a catalog full of ways you can help others, like funding a water well construction project and providing education to African farmers. Or you can download one of their kit projects to put together at home for others in need.
