Don't Sleep Naked

"A Bedtime Habit That Went Too Far"

By Mansoor AhmadPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

Rohan was a bright, happy, and playful boy who lived in a quiet town with his parents and little sister, Meera. He was in the sixth grade and enjoyed cartoons, playing cricket, and eating mangoes. But Rohan had a strange bedtime habit—he liked to sleep without any clothes on.

This habit started one summer night when the weather was very hot. Rohan felt uncomfortable in his pajamas, so he took them off and went to sleep without wearing anything. “This feels so cool and free!” he whispered to himself, smiling under his bedsheet. He woke up the next morning feeling fresh and relaxed.

From that night on, Rohan made it his daily routine to sleep naked. He didn’t tell anyone, not even his sister, and he thought it was fun and harmless. “It’s just a small secret,” he thought. “No one will ever find out.”

Weeks passed, and Rohan continued with his unusual bedtime habit. Everything seemed fine—until one surprising night.

It was around 2 a.m. when a loud banging sound woke everyone up. Rohan’s father rushed into his room and shouted, “Rohan! Wake up! There’s a fire at the back of the house next door. We need to leave quickly!”

Rohan jumped out of bed, startled and confused. But as he stood up, he remembered—he wasn’t wearing anything!

“Dad! Wait!” Rohan shouted, panicking. “I need clothes!”

“There’s no time! Just grab something and come outside!” his father yelled, holding Meera’s hand tightly.

Rohan’s hands trembled as he opened his cupboard and pulled out a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. He quickly slipped them on and ran outside, still half-asleep.

Outside, all the neighbors were gathered. Some people were wearing nightclothes, others had blankets wrapped around them. Everyone looked tired and worried. Rohan joined his family and stood quietly, shivering slightly in the cool night air.

A few kids looked at Rohan and whispered to each other. One boy giggled, “Looks like Rohan forgot how to dress at night!”

Rohan’s face turned bright red. He felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. He stood with his arms crossed, wishing he could disappear.

After about two hours, the fire was finally put out by the firefighters. It hadn’t reached Rohan’s house, but everyone had stayed outside as a safety measure.

Back inside, Rohan sat on his bed, looking down. His mother came into the room with a warm blanket and sat beside him.

“Are you okay now?” she asked softly.

Rohan nodded slowly. “I didn’t think this would ever happen,” he whispered.

His mother gently put her hand on his shoulder. “Rohan, I know you’ve been sleeping without clothes. I didn’t say anything because I thought maybe it was just for the hot weather. But tonight you saw how quickly an emergency can happen.”

“I was so scared and ashamed,” Rohan admitted. “I couldn’t even leave the room quickly.”

“Comfort is important, Rohan,” his mother said kindly. “But safety is even more important. If something unexpected happens, you need to be ready. Wearing light cotton pajamas is better—it keeps you cool, and you’re never caught unprepared.”

Rohan thought for a moment and nodded. “I understand now. I won’t sleep naked again.”

That night, Rohan picked out his softest pajamas—blue ones with stars and moons on them. He brushed his teeth, got into bed, and smiled. He felt just as comfortable, and even more safe.

The next day, he told his best friend Aman what had happened. Aman laughed and said, “That’s wild! But yeah, I always wear pajamas. My mom says the same thing—be ready for anything.”

Rohan laughed too, but deep inside, he knew he had learned a very important lesson.

From then on, Rohan made it a habit to sleep fully dressed in comfortable nightwear. He even helped Meera choose her nightclothes and reminded her to stay ready for any surprise, even in the middle of the night.

Moral of the Story:

Comfort is nice, but safety and readiness are more important. Always be prepared for the unexpected—even when you go to bed.
