Dear Inner Child

A letter to my inner child

By Sylvester LongPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Dear Inner Child,

You’ve dealt with major bullies in your life. The things that people said about you have affected you. You didn’t love yourself fully. You experienced depression to the point of suicidal thoughts and/or attempts on 3 different occasions. You have battled (and are still battling) dyslexia. You watched your mother get abused by your father almost on a regular basis. Thus, you were very angry with your father about that, even though you love him.

You also had some anger issues that stemmed from issues at home. Your anger issues got to a point where you would black outif someone pushed you too far. All because you had so much pent-up anger, sadness, frustration, etc.

You felt like you needed to fit in to make friends or to even have someone talk to you. Some people have abandoned you. You felt like you didn’t have anyone to talk to or reach out to. You’ve allowed yourself to be broken and disrespected by people. You felt like you were alone in this world. You felt like no one would understand how you feel. You’ve made some bad decisions as well. But yet, here you are still standing.

I want to tell to you something. You are worth so much more than you think. You are more than enough. The things people said about you are not true at all. You are a very intelligent young man. You are so gifted. You have purpose. You have a special calling on your life. God has a special purpose for you. You may not know what that is right now, but that is okay! But always remember that you were born on purpose!

You are more than your scars. You will do amazing things. You will become anything that you wanna become. You can and will make an impact. You are a warrior. You are more than a conqueror.

Despite everything you’ve experienced, please know that you matter. You are loved. You are appreciated. Had any of those suicide attempts been successful, you would not have been here to make some amazing friends and make some awesome accomplishments and memories. Keep your head up. Life is hard, but God sustains. Life may be rough, but God got you always.

People may tell you that you are not good enough or that you are not worth it. But you don't have to listen to them. At the end of the day, never forget who you are in Christ. You have so much to give to the world. You have a big heart, a big brain, and a sharp mind. You bring light to every room that you walk into. You command respect when you arive. Your light is needed in this dark world. Please continue to let the light and love of God shine through you. It is very beautiful.

Your life has meaning. You matter. You are important. You are valued. You are loved. It does not matter what other may say about you. The only thing that matters is what God see when He looks at you. He sees something extraordinary in you. He sees something wonderful in you. Let Him use you. Let Him lead you. Let Him guide you. He knows what's best, and He has your best interest at heart. He got you covered!

No matter what, keep being who you are and who you were meant to be. No one can do you better than you and no one can be you better than you. You will be a badass! You will be a game changer! I believe in you! I love you!

Much love my young brother 🙏🏾🙏🏾✊🏾✊🏾
