Breaking the Chains of Worry
A Journey from Anxiety to Inner Peace

Once upon a time in a small village nestled between green hills and quiet rivers, lived a young girl named Areeba. She was kind, thoughtful, and always ready to help others. But deep inside, Areeba carried a heavy burden—worry.
She worried about her studies, about what others thought of her, about her future, and even about little things like making mistakes. Every day, she smiled in front of her family and friends, but at night, her mind would not let her rest. Thoughts raced like wild horses, and sleep often ran away from her.
One day, while sitting alone under the old mango tree behind her house, Areeba whispered to herself, “Why do I feel so tired even when I’ve done nothing wrong?” She looked at the sky and wished someone could give her an answer.
That evening, her grandmother noticed the sadness in her eyes.
“My dear, what’s troubling your heart?” she asked gently.
Areeba tried to smile but couldn’t hold back her tears. “Nani, I don’t know how to stop thinking. I’m always scared—what if I fail, what if people laugh at me, what if I’m not good enough?”
Her grandmother held her hand and said, “Come, let me tell you a story.”
They sat together under the stars, and her grandmother began, “There was once a little bird who lived in a cage. Every day, it looked at the sky and wished to fly. But the bird was afraid. ‘What if I fall? What if I can’t fly like the others?’ it thought. One day, a storm came and broke the door of the cage. The bird had a choice—to stay safe or to fly. With shaking wings and a brave heart, it chose to fly. And do you know what happened?”
“What?” Are you okay? Areeba asked, wiping her eyes.
“It found out it was born to fly. It just needed to try.”
Areeba smiled softly. The story touched her heart.
That night, Areeba made a decision. She wanted to be like that little bird.
The next morning, she woke up early and took out a small notebook. On the first page, she wrote, “My journey to peace.” She decided to write down her thoughts every day to understand them instead of fearing them.
At school, whenever she felt nervous, she reminded herself, “I’m learning. It’s okay to make mistakes.” Slowly, she began to enjoy her classes more.
She also started talking to her best friend, Maria, about how she felt. To her surprise, Maria said, “I feel the same sometimes too!” Areeba realized she was not alone and that everyone has worries—they just don’t always show them.
One afternoon, the school counselor visited their class and talked about “mindfulness.” She taught the students how to take deep breaths and sit quietly for a few minutes every day. Areeba tried it and felt calmer. She learned that her mind needed rest, just like her body.
Weeks passed, and Areeba noticed small changes. She laughed more, slept better, and even helped her classmates with their problems. Her parents saw the light in her eyes return, and her grandmother smiled with pride.
One day, Areeba stood in front of her class to give a presentation. Her hands shook a little, but she took a deep breath and remembered her notebook. “I’m learning. I’m brave.” Her voice grew stronger with each word. When she finished, the class clapped, and her teacher said, “Well done, Areeba. That was beautiful.”
After school, Areeba went back to the mango tree and opened her notebook. She added a new page titled “What I’ve Learned.” She wrote:
It’s okay to feel worried. It doesn’t mean I’m weak.
Talking helps. So does writing.
Breathing deeply can calm my stormy thoughts.
I don’t have to be perfect. I just need to try.
I am stronger than my fears.
As the sun set behind the hills, Areeba smiled to herself. She was still the same girl—but something inside her had changed. She had broken the invisible chains that once held her back. Now, she felt free.
Her journey wasn’t over, and some days were still hard, but she had found the tools to help herself. She had learned to be kind to her mind, to take one step at a time, and to believe that peace was not far—it was within her.
Moral of the Story:
No matter how strong our worries feel, we can overcome them with courage, self-awareness, and support. By understanding our thoughts, sharing our feelings, and taking small steps every day, we can break free from fear and find peace within ourselves.
