Better Safe Than Sorry

Plan ahead don't panic

By Kenna RaePublished 5 years ago 3 min read

We are just a few days into 2021, and I know that I am so glad to see 2020 put behind us. What a crazy year! I'm sure that we can all agree on that.

Personally, I have experienced a wide variety of emotions navigating my way through 2020. When the shelter in place, lockdown, the country shut down whatever you called it first took place I can honestly say it terrified me.

We were told to stay home to fight a virus that seemed to spread faster than a wildfire. There was not much information given to us, which made it even more frightening.

I was an emotional wreck. I stayed shut in away from my kids and grandkids, fearing the absolute worst. Yes, we have internet and Facetime that makes it easy to see my family and I was glad to have it.

But...I could not get through the days without crying it took a huge toll on me mentally and physically.

I did everything and continue to do these things every day. I mask up, wash my hands 200 hundred times a day, use Clorox wipes, Lysol, and hand sanitizer without even thinking about it anymore. It has become not only a habit but a way of life.

Everything for the same common goal to flatten the curve, crush the virus in hopes of getting back to pre-COVID-19 days. Sadly the two weeks we were all asked to comply with has turned into 10 months and counting.

Sadly it appears as we approach the one-year mark of fighting the virus that 2021 is looking to be a repeat of 2020. We are very far from being out of the woods, and let's be honest, no one has any idea when that time will come.

When I turn on the television the news reminds us very cruelly just how bad things are reporting the new cases and death tolls. It has been suggested that we have yet to see the worst of the virus. While that has not been confirmed yet, we should prepare and expect another round of lockdown/shelter-in-place coming between January and February.

There are whisperings of such another lockdown, which is how it started last time. Now, I do not know for sure and I am by far from an expert on this matter.

What I do know is that the first time around was scary enough for me that I plan to be somewhat prepared for the possibility either way. Better safe than sorry approach.

By this I mean, buying a few extra groceries and putting them in my pantry. Not to the point of hoarding, just prepping a bit. I will also pick up a few puzzles, crosswords, hobby supplies, and books to read to have on hand just in case.

I will also be buying a few items to cozy my home up a bit more. Might as well. I mean IF we are going to sheltering in place again for only God knows how long might as well be comfortable doing it right?

I think first up on the after Christmas sales will be some new snuggly pajama sets, maybe some sweats, a nice soft throw for snuggling up while binge-watching.

The world is what it is these days, so I see nothing wrong with doing the little things to help us get through the difficult times. I know I am not the only one who believes being comfy is the only way to go.

At least if we do have to stay home a bit more in the weeks it is winter. Right, who really wants to go out in the snow and cold anyway?

Fess up... I am not the only one who feels this way. I don't want to be crazy about it, I am just one of those types of people who will feel better about things if I am somewhat prepared for it ahead of time.

So I guess my questions to you are, do you believe another round of shutdowns are coming, if so, what if anything are you doing to prepare for it?
