Beliefs About Yourself - What They May Contain
Individual Beliefs Lead To Discrimination
What is Belief System?
Belief systems are part of our environmental side of life. Human beings collect thousands of thoughts throughout their lifetimes, all regarding everything from what other people think to what we see in the media, to things we read, hear about on the radio, and what other people tell us. It's amazing all the preconceived ideas that people have floating around in their heads; and even more so when you consider the number of words used in the mass media, which are overwhelmingly saturated with advertising.
In fact, we are bombarded with so much information, and the truth, that it's really no wonder that many of us get frustrated and irritated with the process of getting through our day. This article will explore some of the ways that your beliefs about yourself can either benefit or hinder you in this busy world.
Religious Views of Belief
Religion is a complex collection of political, cultural, and religious systems that relate to religion and, at times, to moral values and mythology. Many religions have scriptures, stories, traditions, and rituals that are designed to either describe the cause of life and the universe or to offer meaning to human life and the universe in general.
There are many different types of religion that have developed over time. The most important of these are organized religions, such as Islam, Catholicism, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Native American spirituality. Other religions are eclectic and have evolved over time to include such practices as astrology, numerology, astrological charting, herbal medicine, or meditation.
How can you tell if your beliefs make sense or not? What does it mean when you tell someone that their beliefs are not true? Is it true that everyone has a different interpretation of the same universal truth? Can a belief system to be shared by all people without contradicting other beliefs that may predominate in this world around us?
Belief in the Beginning
Some people will argue that our physical universe is nothing more than a belief system that has been carefully manufactured by man. If we could go back in time and examine all the beliefs that we believe and force our present-day world around us to conform to these belief systems then perhaps we could look at how religion came about.
Many scientists believe that all life on Earth began in a universe that was much less colorful and developed through a series of natural mutations and the survival of the fittest. Perhaps in this highly improbable environment there were living beings that using language to communicate. Over time this evolved into all of our language and concepts that we presently use.
Religious Beliefs in Contrast
Many religious beliefs are very specific in how they teach their followers what to believe and how to live their lives. While some religions require a special sacrifice, believe in the miracle of the human being or believe in the end of times so that we can all live in peace.
Is it possible to find a belief system that requires no sacrifice, no belief in the miracle, and that has no need for the survival of the fittest to survive the next few billions of years? If there was only one belief system that everybody knew and followed then eventually there would be no need for any religion or any religious beliefs at all.
The truth is that there is only one true religion and that is belief. There is only one group of individuals that follow the teachings of any one religion and that is the members of the human race.
Individuals do not become members of any organization based on their religion but rather because of their belief system that dictate what is needed to survive in this world. If all individuals lived according to the same belief system then we could call ourselves the human species, but we know that is not the case.
Freedom for Belief
Individuals that follow a specific belief system will tend to be better educated, happier, and healthier than those that don't. People tend to believe in something or out of a need to justify a belief in order to be a part of the human race. Religious intolerance should not be allowed in our society or in world affairs. Individuals have the right to believe what they choose and have the right to act as they see fit.
It does not mean that a person has to change their mind about something just because someone else disagrees with them. There are a number of different opinions that can be held and there is no reason why one person should be forced to change their personal beliefs just because someone else does not agree with them.
The belief in God is not a requirement to be moral, nice, loving, and functional in this world. Individual belief systems can lead to discrimination on various levels, such as religious intolerance, gender discrimination, disability discrimination, age discrimination, and many other types of discrimination. If a person believes in a higher power than themselves then they may feel that they need to stick to a set of rules and not be allowed to be themselves because of what that someone may call a sin or a transgression.
Conclusion
Freedom of religion provides an individual with the freedom to believe and support any type of religion that they choose. Beliefs do not need to be supported by others in order to be moral or to practice peace. A person should be free to choose beliefs that are in line with their own moral code and not be required to support or live by someone else's code.
