Another day, another commute.
"Every day feels like Groundhog Day on this train
When I boarded the crowded train for my work, I couldn't help but feel a sense of boredom and monotony. To escape the tedium of my daily commute, I had put on my headphones and started listening to some random my favourite music. I squeezed myself into a small corner, wedged between a group of office workers and a mother with her young child.
As the train chugged along, I noticed that the rain from the previous night had left a massive puddle on the pavement outside.
I walked down the path to my office, surrounded by the sound of cars honking and people rushing to their destinations. As I turned a corner, I noticed a small boy in a school uniform waiting for his school bus.
He seemed to be a bundle of energy, as he started to dance strangely with a trash can lid in his hand. The other commuters were surprised by his sudden outburst and started to murmur and laugh.
"Who needs a dance floor when you have a trash can lid?" one commuter whispered to another,
I, too, was taken aback by his actions, but I couldn't help but feel drawn towards him.
The boy danced. Suddenly and Strangely, he used the lid to close an open drainage hole that everyone was walking through. To my surprise, no one had noticed the drainage was open, and everyone on the road was wading through the murky water, and even I had to join them. Everyone and even myself thought he closes the drainage.
But here is the best part, after closing the drainage he continues to dance. Within few minutes he open the drainage and place the trassh can lid where he was taken and waiting for his school bus. Everyone surprised and leave for their work.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I approached the boy to ask him why he didn't close the drain. He looked up at me with a mixture of surprise and amusement and said something that left me astonished.
He said, "Because everyone was walking through it without closing it, so I thought I would close it for them. But then, I realized that they would probably just open it again, so I opened it for them myself. That way, they won't forget to close it the next time they walk through it."
The boy's words stayed with me long after I reached my office. I couldn't help but think about how his small act that made such a big impact on me. It made me realize that sometimes, Kids don't need to learn from the elders, we have to learn alot from them.
"In a world where we are constantly rushing to get to our destinations, sometimes we forget to appreciate the little things. But it's in those moments that we can learn the most."
Sometimes the most significant impact on our lives comes from the smallest moments. This incident made me realize the importance of being more attentive to my surroundings and learning from the younger generation. We need to be open-minded and receptive to their ideas because they may have a fresh perspective on life that can change our values and decisions.
So, the next time you see a small act or a small moment that has a big impact, take notice and try to learn from it. Who knows, it might just change your life.
