7 Simple Daily Habits to Keep Stress at Bay

Daily habits to beat the stress

By Sindhu RaveendranPublished about a year ago 3 min read

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is associated with burnout, anxiety, and exhaustion.

But all that stress that we take in day-to-day life is not harmful.

When channeled correctly, stress can be the powerhouse for productivity and personal growth.

This type of stress, also known as Eustress can help achieve goals, meet deadlines, and overcome challenges.

From my own experience and a mix of books and articles I've discovered three simple tips that can help you manage stress better

Know your limits.

While most of us are aware of what stress is and how it will affect our body and mind, it is also crucial to be aware of our own capabilities and limits. Try to understand what your body and mind can take in. Pushing them too far can lead to a breakdown.

Spend your time wisely.

You must have heard it lots of times, but it's true. Time is the most valuable resource. You put limits on what is urgent and what is not. What is necessary and what is not? Prioritize your time.

Take time out to meditate.

And if you think your life is going to come to a standstill, when you are stressed, think again. There will be some tasks that always need your attention and some discussions that needs your involvement. That’s why you must step back and maybe start a meditation practice. Do it for just a few minutes a day. Do it whenever you feel a little overwhelmed by daily tasks. This activity will help you calm down and relax.

Take a break from the digital world

It is easier said than done. We live in a connected world and unfortunately, excessive use of smartphones and other technology has shown an increase in stress and anxiety. Taking a break from the digital world is important and helps lower your stress. You can break the habit by replacing it with more healthier ones. Try reading a book rather than scrolling through social media. Try writing or journaling rather than going through the websites. Making these small changes can have a huge impact on your stress level.

Cultivate a habit of practicing gratitude.

This is now an evidence-based practice that can transform your mindset. Every day, when you wake up and before you go to sleep at night, reflect on five things you’re grateful for. This simple act will calm your mind and bring peace. Over time, it will foster a more positive outlook on life, helping you appreciate the small moments that often go unnoticed.

Get organized.

Disorganization is a hidden source of stress, and there's no better time than now to declutter your spaces. Take this opportunity to go through your drawers, closets, and even your car, and clear out any junk, trash, or unnecessary items you've accumulated. Simplifying your surroundings will bring clarity and ease to your life.

Maintain a Positive Outlook

Go to work with a positive mindset, ready to embrace whatever the day brings. This kind of energy shifts your perspective on stressful situations almost instantly. It’s empowering and contagious. Stay in control of your day, and don’t let minor setbacks drag you down or overwhelm you.

Incorporating these seven simple daily habits into your routine can make a significant difference in how you manage stress. By embracing eustress and channeling it effectively, you can turn potential anxiety into a source of motivation and growth. Remember, stress doesn't have to be your enemy; with the right approach, it can be a powerful ally in achieving your goals and enhancing your well-being. Start implementing these habits today and experience the positive transformation in your life.
