Self-motivation is the engine that keeps you going when other people aren’t around to give you a push, and if you don’t have it, success will always be just out of your reach. Fortunately, these seven self-motivation tips can help you get there in no time. No more excuses! Time to get things done!

Get Started Right Away

The best way to get motivated is to take action. If you’re feeling down about yourself or just can’t find motivation, there are small things you can do that don’t require a lot of effort. Sometimes it’s as simple as making your bed, cleaning your room, or taking out the trash. Put on some motivational music and get in a good mood to get started right away!

Don’t Be Afraid to Admit Defeat

The road to self-motivation is rarely a smooth one. Sometimes your motivation will ebb and flow, waxing and waning over time. If you feel yourself losing steam, don’t be afraid to acknowledge defeat and regroup. Remember that it’s not all or nothing—the most important thing is to keep trying, even if your best just isn’t good enough sometimes. Self-motivation is like any other muscle: you have to exercise it regularly in order to strengthen it!

Take Small Steps

If you find that you’re unmotivated to achieve your goals, take small steps. Break them down into bite-sized pieces and tackle them one at a time. Small wins build confidence, which helps us keep going. Celebrate each small win along the way by taking a moment to savor it and pat yourself on the back! It might feel silly at first, but celebrating our wins is an important part of staying motivated and achieving long-term success.

Learn from your mistakes.

Most of us are afraid to make mistakes, and that fear is what stops us from trying. It’s not possible to succeed without taking a few risks along the way, so get over your fear and do something today—it doesn’t have to be huge. Make a mistake, learn from it, and move on. Don’t let your own self-doubt hold you back! Use these motivational quotes for yourself as daily reminders that you can do anything you set your mind to.

Reward Yourself.

It’s easy to lose motivation and start slacking off when you don’t feel like you’re accomplishing anything. To avoid getting discouraged, set up a reward system that lets you give yourself a pat on the back once in a while. Celebrate small victories with a new treat or by indulging in your favorite hobby—it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, just something that gets you excited about what you do.

Set Goals

We have to have a goal before we can take action. Goals give us focus; they tell us what is important. Our life follows our focus; it’s not what happens to us that determines our future, but rather how we respond to what happens that determines our future. Without goals, we meander aimlessly through life, not sure where we are going or why. So ask yourself: What am I aiming for? What do I want?

Think About Why You Want It.

One of my favorite bits of motivational advice is "Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better." Sometimes, when we get down on ourselves or our situation, we can start to make excuses. Instead of doing that, think about why you want what you want. Be specific and visual. What will it look like when you achieve your goal? Why do that? How will that impact your life in a positive way? Every single day, visualize yourself reaching your goal.
