6 Steps to Reprogram your Brain (Quit any addiction)
How to break free from the cycle and achieve anything you desire in life.
How does a regular day go for you? Let me guess: you wake up in the morning, grab your phone, scroll through WhatsApp, get up, go to the toilet, take a bath, get dressed, have breakfast, and leave for work.
You take the same route, go to the same place, do the same tasks, meet the same people who evoke the same feelings, avoid some people, and wish to get closer to others. After finishing work, you head home the same way, scroll through short videos, and go to sleep.
This routine repeats every day, like a computer program. It feels like you're not living consciously; instead, everything seems to happen automatically.
Neuroscientist Dr. Joe Dispenza says that by the age of 35, 95% of what we are is governed by our subconscious mind. This subconscious program consists of our beliefs, behaviors, emotional reactions, unconscious habits, and attitudes, guiding us to act in specific ways. The remaining 5% is our conscious mind, the part that says:
- "I want to change myself."
- "I want to be healthy."
- "I want to learn new skills."
- "I want to work hard and be happy."
- "I want to be free."
But here's the catch: every day, you try to fight your 95% subconscious programming with just 5% of your conscious willpower—and lose.
Hello! I'm Rahul Sanaodwala, the founder of StriWears. Welcome to My Stories, a platform where aspiring entrepreneurs get inspired by the journeys of successful founders and learn the secrets to building thriving businesses.
Why We Struggle to Change
You wake up enthusiastic, determined to change everything. But by the end of the day, you’re exhausted, and nothing changes. Accept this truth: the battle with your subconscious mind is one you’re destined to lose if you continue to fight it.
Your subconscious is in the driver’s seat, not you. It will take you where it wants, not where you want to go.
So, should you give up? Absolutely not. The solution isn’t to fight harder but to stop fighting and instead reprogram your mind. When you stop fighting, neither you nor your subconscious wins or loses.
By reprogramming your mind, you can align it to work for you, not against you. Without this change, your current programming could lead to trauma, financial crises, health issues, or worse.
To reprogram your subconscious, you need to change its source code. Here are the six steps to achieve that transformation.
Step 1: Belief
Your beliefs shape your reality. Imagine placing a human among animals—they adapt and act like animals. Similarly, animals raised among humans develop human-like traits.
Think about it: as a child, you didn’t consciously learn to speak your language. You simply listened to those around you and started speaking like them.
If you've been conditioned to believe you’re incapable, unintelligent, or destined for mediocrity, your brain has internalized those lies as truth. Repeatedly hearing negative beliefs about yourself conditions your brain to act accordingly.
Now, it’s time to rewrite that narrative. Replace negative beliefs with empowering truths:
- "I am capable."
- "I am intelligent."
- "I can achieve greatness."
Surround yourself with evidence and people that support these beliefs. As your belief strengthens, it will begin to shift your mindset and behavior.
Step 2: Feeling
Belief alone isn’t enough. You must feel the truth of your new beliefs in your body. While your brain communicates through thoughts, your body communicates through feelings.
For example, imagine a delicious dish. You crave it, but if your stomach is full, you won’t eat it. Similarly, if you can’t emotionally connect with your vision, your body won’t act on it.
Create the emotional appetite for success. Feel the excitement, joy, and fulfillment of achieving your goals. When your mind and body align, you’re more likely to take meaningful action.
Step 3: Behavior
Your behaviors create your habits, and your habits define your life. Once you believe in your potential and feel it deeply, your actions will begin to change.
Reprogramming your subconscious requires changing your daily behaviors. Small, consistent actions will compound into transformative habits. These habits will then shape the 95% of your subconscious that governs your actions.
Step 4: Conscious Self-Talk
Pay attention to what you say to yourself. Self-talk shapes your perception of reality. Negative self-talk—like “I’m weak,” “I’m anxious,” or “I’ll never succeed”—reinforces limiting beliefs.
Instead, replace these destructive narratives with positive affirmations:
- “I am strong.”
- “I am confident.”
- “I am capable.”
Choose affirmations that feel realistic and meaningful to you. With consistent repetition, these affirmations will begin to reprogram your subconscious.
Step 5: Replace Negative Self-Talk
Once you identify your negative self-talk, actively replace it with empowering statements. For instance:
- “I am weak” becomes “I am strong.”
- “I am anxious” becomes “I am confident.”
- “I am a failure” becomes “I am successful.”
Ensure your affirmations strike a balance—they should challenge you without feeling unbelievable.
Step 6: Find Proof
To solidify your new self-talk, back it up with action. Take steps that align with your affirmations:
- Wake up early.
- Exercise regularly.
- Eliminate distractions.
- Complete tasks with focus.
Break your big goals into smaller, achievable milestones. Each success will reinforce your belief in your potential and give you the emotional satisfaction of progress.
Final Thoughts
By following these six steps—belief, feeling, behavior, conscious self-talk, replacing negativity, and finding proof—you’ll reprogram your subconscious mind and regain control of your life.
Your subconscious is powerful, but with the right tools, you can align it to help you achieve anything you set your mind to. Now, the journey begins. Are you ready to take the first step?
