3AM in Brooklyn: A Fan’s Letter to Betnijah Laney-Hamilton
Injury may sideline her body, but not her spirit — or her place in Liberty history

When it comes to the heart of the New York Liberty, no one beats louder than Betnijah Laney-Hamilton. She’s grit, grace, and championship gold all in one frame. And though she won’t be suiting up this season due to a tough meniscus injury, her presence still echoes across Barclays Center like a battle cry from last year’s title run.
This isn’t just another injury update. This is something deeper , something for the fans who felt every bucket, every defensive stop, and every emotional postgame moment. This is a letter for B. A thank you. A recognition. A reminder that legends don’t always need a jersey on to lead.

Dear Betnijah, New York Is Still With You
May 16th , 2025
Dear Betnijah,
It’s 3 AM in Brooklyn as I write this. The city that never sleeps feels a little quieter these days. And while the season’s just getting started, something feels… off. Not because of who we’re playing, or what the record says — but because you’re not out there.
It doesn’t feel right, watching the Liberty take the floor without №44 moving with that silent thunder the kind that never asks for attention but commands it anyway. The kind that grinds on both ends of the court, makes the hustle plays, hits the open three, and does it all without a headline request. We saw you. We always saw you.
We know about the acute meniscus injury, the surgery, the recovery clock ticking behind the scenes. But for the rest of us, this isn’t just about knees or timelines or load management. It’s about missing the heart of our team.
When we think of the 2024 championship , our first ever , your name is carved into that banner just as deeply as any stat or score. You were a warrior last season. Through the pain. Through the setbacks. You still suited up for 25 games, delivered nearly 12 points per night, crashed the boards, facilitated plays, and left every drop of energy on that floor. You helped make history.
And yet, here you are, forced to sit out the next chapter of it.
Our hearts break for you, B. Because we know how much you love this game. We know how much this city, this franchise, this journey meant to you. And because we love you right back for everything you’ve given, for everything we know you’re still giving, even if you’re not lacing up this season.
But here’s the thing: absence doesn’t erase legacy. Not in this city. Not with this team.
Your presence at the season opener, at practice, in the locker room it still matters. Your voice still carries. Your impact still echoes. You’re still helping this team fight for another banner, even if you’re doing it from the sidelines this time.
Recovery is a lonely road. But you’re not walking it alone. You’ve got a city behind you. You’ve got a borough standing tall. And every fan in the Barclays Center whether we’re watching from Section 123 or yelling from the couch has one message for you:
We miss you. We love you. We’re waiting for you.
And when you’re ready, B, we’ll be right here with open arms, open hearts, and open space in the starting five.
Until then, heal strong. Heal proud. Because no matter what, you’re still our champion.
With all the love a city can give, — Nwo Sparrow
Betnijah, the hardwood won’t feel the same without you this season, but your energy will still be in every chant, every tip-off, and every win. You showed us what it means to fight, to believe, and to finish the mission and that’s what we’ll carry with us all season long.
Until Betnijah is back dropping dimes and locking up full court, know that the city’s with her . Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, the Bronx , we all got love for her. Take your time. Heal right. We’ll keep your spot warm.
This season is not only for the city but for B.
