10 Tips To Become Number One

Wherever you are, you can initiate change and become the one who changes your life for the better. If you are a middle manager, you can improve the quality of your employees’ communication with their children after work by creating a culture of supportiveness instead of a culture of stress.

If you are a humble trainee or assistant, you can tune your boss into more effective negotiations with the client by simply emailing documents the day before the meeting. Believing in your power to exert influence, regardless of your official position, is the first step to growing your potential.

Treat leadership as an opportunity to change the life around.

No matter what area or who you work in, your belief that you can play an important role multiplies your potential. Those who try to be a superstar alone, who believe they can only transform in a leadership position, reach extremely little potential. But when any person in the system, regardless of his formal role, contributes to the emergence of positive change, his achievements are practically unlimited.

We must free ourselves from the tyranny of labels if we are to achieve Greater Potential.

Many people believe that leadership is an individual sport, a burden of loners. However, trying to take full responsibility for yourself is the fastest way to burn out.

If you were the head of a department in a hospital and believed that the results of each patient’s treatment depended solely on you, pretty soon you would feel “compassion fatigue.” Likewise, if you were a sales manager or CFO and thought you were the only one responsible for the company’s profit, you would be overwhelmed by the burden of that responsibility. Just think of the way people with high potential are often told, “If you want a job done well, do it yourself.”

Not only is this wrong, but it is also the fastest way to ruin all your tasks. Your time and energy are limited, but the demand for them is endless. You simply cannot satisfy all requests until you distribute your responsibilities among those who also work for your common goals.

Find the meaning.

The path to leadership can be found in almost any job. But first, you need to find the meaning in it.

Next time you go to a large supermarket, look out for the packers at the checkout. Most likely, you will find that one-third of packers will look bored and lethargic, one-third professional but indifferent, and one-third cheerful, energetic, and helpful with customers.

Same job, three different approaches.

Probably, even a happy third do not want to remain packers for the rest of their lives, and they hardly think that this is a dream job and a way of maximum self-realization. Nevertheless, they were able to find meaning in it: to joke with the customer or give him a compliment, facilitate the cashier’s work by speeding up the movement of goods along the tape, or contribute to environmental protection by convincing the customer to use a paper or textile bag instead of a plastic one.

Such people are a good example of the fact that you can not only choose the role of a leader but also give meaning to any job.

Prepare an inspiring speech. Not for bosses.

The key to success is preparing your inspiring speech carefully. It is like a very short presentation where you have to sell a product while the elevator takes you to the top floor, but the purpose of your inspiring speech is to convince others to become the forces of positive change.

This speech is good not only because it motivates people to be leaders anywhere, but also because it can be delivered from any place. Setting people up to want change is always difficult. After all, people are slaves to their habits and therefore can resist new, unusual ideas. Therefore, inspirational speech should not be offhand. It needs to be prepared and structured.

Think about what worries those to whom you are speaking. For example, let’s say you’re trying to inspire a group of salespeople — who, you know, only care about their own income and KPIs — to master inclusive leadership. You can tell them about a study that shows sales volume is directly related to how managers treat their assistants and how much time they spend training junior salespeople in their teams.

When you help people see why they should want change, you activate their sense of possession and sense of “this is mine,” transforming indifference and inertia into potential.

Talk about results.

When people see the fruits of their labors, a positive feedback loop begins, in which progress acts as a catalyst for even greater change.

No matter where we sit, we can all use progress to unleash more and more potential — in our team, at work, or at home with children. If your team is involved in a volunteer project, you can bring materials or photographs of your results to the next meeting. And if your boss has entrusted you with a new project or commissioned a new client, you can tell him in detail how much you contributed to the rate of return.

Understand that each of us has too much work to do.

How to jump over your head and do more than you can is a mystery that worries almost everyone.

Some people spend a lot of time and effort without getting anything in the end, while others, under the same conditions, achieve an impressive result. The latter differs from the first in non-standard thinking, firmness of character, and wisdom.

People with lateral thinking come up with ways to work more efficiently (for example, find good people, technology, and/or an action plan). People with strong character are more resistant to stress when overcoming problems. And the wise maintain their composure by assessing the situation from a higher level, which helps them to correctly prioritize, draw up a rational plan of action and make the right choice.

Look for non-standard, breakthrough solutions.

When people are faced with difficult problems or a lot of work, they often think they need to work harder. But if something seems difficult and time-consuming, try to put the situation in perspective and discuss with others if there is a better way to handle the task.

Of course, in many cases, you cannot do without tedious painstaking work, but it also happens that there is a more effective solution that you simply cannot see.

Don’t change yourself, change the picture of the world.

What you achieve in life depends on how you perceive reality and what you are connected with (your family, community, country, humanity, the entire ecosystem, everything in principle). You will have to decide to what extent you will prioritize the interests of others over your own and who will be in your social circle. You will constantly find yourself in situations where you have to make such a choice.

These decisions may seem overwhelming to you, but you will make them — consciously or not — and they will turn out to be very important.

Read.

By reading only 10 pages a day, you can master about 14 books in a year. Nothing changes consciousness like broadening one’s horizons, changing the picture of the world, which we talked about above. Always carry a paper book with you in case of long waiting times. Or an electronic reader. An audiobook will do, too.

You never know where you can get stuck for a few hours:

in the clinic;

in the tax office;

in a car service;

in the reception room of a high chief.

The main thing is to spend this time with benefit. Stop drilling walls or playing Angry Birds on your phone!

Change Your Attitude About Stress.

Stress is generally considered bad. Stress leads to headaches, illness, and so on. Try the following game. Every stress is an experience. It gives us the opportunity to become stronger. Any achievement is preceded by hundreds of stresses.

There is no achievement without stress. Change your attitude towards stress!

Have you played computer games? Each test in the game, each “stress” gives points and “pumps” your character. But isn’t it the same in life ?!

Did you get cut off on the road? Did you get nasty at the store? Tell yourself, “Great, I’ll benefit from this. I will improve my anger management and calmness skills in difficult situations. “

Think of stress as a game, as a workout. And it will stop hitting your health and make you stronger!

Work hard.

iPhone as a gift, the course “How to become a millionaire in three months”, reciprocal subscribers, losing weight in one webinar … There are a lot of such announcements around. They are trying to prove to us that it is easy to achieve goals — you can do nothing at all. But it doesn’t work that way.

The probability of hitting a big win in one draw is less than the probability of dying on the day of the drawing. Yes, someone will rip off easy money, but most likely it will not be you. So get yourself a tattoo: “No HYPE! Yes — to work and self-discipline. “
