10 Signs You Are Too Intelligent

Intelligence seems like a quality that should be positive, like being a good friend or having a high moral compass.

Do you feel like people don't take you seriously? Do your co-workers enjoy playing trivia or laughing about your jokes? If so, then it's time to start feeling a little insecure about your intelligence. Here are some signs that you may be too intelligent and might need to rethink who you are as a person.

1) You speak more than two languages.

When people find out that you speak more than two languages, they usually assume that you are bilingual. Most non-English speakers are actually fluent in one language and good at learning another language. However, if you can speak more than two languages fluently and understand what is being said in all of them, then maybe it's time to rethink who you are as a person.

2) You listen carefully in conversation.

To take an exam, to learn a new subject or simply to be sure of understanding someone who is talking to you, speaking with others and asking questions takes tremendous amount of thinking ability. While most people just ask questions, you might be seriously thinking about what is being said and how to properly answer those questions. While most people just speak up when they have something to say, you are more likely to think things through first.

3) You are more intelligent than your brother or sister.

If your parents have more than one child and you are brighter than the other family members, you should take a step back and ask yourself if you might be too intelligent. Even very smart people need to show humility when around family members. No, I don't mean that it is okay to pretend or not be who you are when with your family. You still need to be yourself and be confident in who you are, but maybe just try not to stand out because of something about yourself that is so obvious.

4) You often feel like people think you are God's gift to the world.

People will talk about their children who are exceptional and intelligent. People will go on extolling the virtues of their smart, successful and attractive siblings. People will even talk about their best friends who are smarter than everyone else. Just don't let people tell you that you are better than them at something. If they tell you that you have it all figured out, just ignore them and continue to be the same person in your daily life.

5) You always figure things out faster than everyone else because you think very fast.

You can also get so far ahead of others because of how quickly your mind works or how clearly your thoughts come to you. You can have so much more to say and think about when others are just not catching up with you. This will not go unnoticed by others and could lead to a lot of people being jealous and resentful of you. If someone is jealous of you, then don't be surprised if they start spreading rumors that you are playing a trick on people or trying to become a celebrity through your intellect.

6) You get in trouble for having too many high-paying jobs.

You might be smart enough to get multiple jobs but the truth is that too many high-paying jobs are frowned upon because it makes you seem like an overgrown child who has money coming out his ears but doesn't know how to properly manage it.

It is okay to have multiple money-making jobs, but working too much is not usually assumed to be a good thing. It is obvious that you are intelligent and are making a lot of money, so be careful that you don't let others start thinking too highly of you just because they think you have the financial clout to make things happen on your own.

7) You don't care if other people like or dislike you.

If people like or dislike you, then it's just because of how they want themselves to be perceived by others in that situation. If someone doesn't like you, it just means that they feel better about themselves when someone dislikes them. If you happen to be smarter than them, then someone might get jealous because they realize that you are better at something and that you know it. You should act the same way with everyone, no matter how smart or stupid they are.

8) Your co-workers don't laugh at your jokes.

What really matters is if they respect and appreciate your humor, intelligence and wit. If you try to entertain people with a joke and fail to gauge their reactions properly, then it shows that you are immature or don't have the right social skills to have a good sense of what type of humor works among others. Being more intelligent than others does not mean that you have to be the life of the party.

9) You think about your relationships and how you act with others.

This one is just ridiculous, but if it was true then this would be a good reason to rethink who you are as a person. Everyone has their own way of doing things, but a mature person can learn how to do things differently when they need or want to change their lives for the better. Being intelligent doesn't mean that you can't change your ways and still prosper in your personal and professional lives. It just means that you have to learn how other people work and think differently from the way you do.

10) You won't change for anyone or anything, even though you are not being compensated for doing so.

Spending time with family and friends is important to everyone. We all wish we could spend more time with our loved ones, but we often put off those activities that are important to our happiness because we don't want to compromise who we are as a person in our lives.

The truth is that if you put an end to those kinds of things that make you happy, then it may be time for you to rethink what makes you happy and who you are as a person.

You might be an intelligent person, but you could be a happier person if you were more flexible and understood that it is okay to change who you are in your daily life without losing sight of what brought you joy in the first place.

Finally

No matter what, try not to take yourself too seriously. You may be intelligent and it might come easy to you, but you still have to know that life is a process of change, growth and evolution. Some people will never be as smart or as intelligent as others and that is okay. Just because you are more intelligent than some people doesn't mean it is okay for them to show their jealousy by using rumors, gossip or calling you names behind your back.
