The Inspiring Story of Jeffrey Koistinen: Legacy of Love, Loss & Leadership
Journey of Jeffrey Koistinen- A visionary entrepreneur, innovator, and industry leader

Jeffrey Koistinen is a beacon of innovation, leadership, and resilience in the repossession and financial services industries. With a career spanning over three decades, Jeff has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible, merging technological advancements with operational efficiency. However, his story is not only one of professional triumph but also of personal heartbreak. His life’s journey embodies a testament to strength, perseverance, and the enduring impact of leadership in the face of adversity.
Early Career and Entrepreneurial Beginnings
Jeff’s foray into the repossession industry began in the late 1980s when he joined San Diego Auto Recovery. Here, he gained firsthand experience by facing the challenges of the industry. This foundational role sparked his entrepreneurial drive and led to the launch of HIR Services in 1990, operating out of South Dakota and Tucson, Arizona. Over the next decade, HIR Services gained a reputation for its operational excellence and dedication to client satisfaction.
It was during his time at HIR Services that Jeff’s visionary mindset became evident. Recognizing the industry's need for streamlined operations, he collaborated with programmers in Tucson to create a groundbreaking web-based repossession management platform. This innovation would eventually evolve into the Recovery Database Network (RDN), a tool that revolutionized industry standards.
In 2003, Jeff strategically decided to sell HIR Services to focus exclusively on RDN. As the founder of RDN, Jeff introduced the first fully integrated web-based recovery software, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and collaboration between recovery agents and their clients.
Innovations and Leadership in Technology
Jeff’s pioneering spirit didn’t stop with RDN. In 2007, he co-founded the Digital Recognition Network (DRN), leveraging license plate recognition (LPR) technology to transform vehicle recovery processes. Under his leadership, DRN achieved remarkable milestones, such as locating over 17,000 wanted vehicles in 2008, collectively valued at over $100 million.
From 2012 to 2019, Jeff expanded his influence by serving as Director of Operations at Vendor Transparency Solutions, where he developed risk management screening solutions tailored to regulatory changes in the repossession sector. Concurrently, as President of My Recovery System Inc., he steered the company’s growth, overseeing sales and operations.
In 2019, Jeff joined MBSi Corp. as Vice President of Products, where he further honed his expertise in product development. Today, as Chief Operating Officer at Connect2Vendor Inc., Jeff continues to shape the industry’s future by overseeing strategic vision, operational excellence, and growth initiatives.
Personal Life and Unimaginable Tragedy
Jeff’s professional achievements are paralleled by a rich personal life, deeply enriched by his family. He and his wife, Genevie (Suyu) Koistinen, celebrated the birth of their son, Liam Jeffrey Koistinen, on February 1, 2020, in Tucson, Arizona. Liam brought immense joy to their lives with his vibrant spirit and infectious laughter.
Tragically, this joy was short-lived. During a family visit to Watertown, South Dakota, in the summer of 2021, Liam was placed in the care of an unlicensed daycare provider, Amanda Walder. Under devastating circumstances, Liam suffered abuse that resulted in a brain bleed and swelling. On July 14, 2021, Liam Jeffrey Koistinen passed away at just 17 months old at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Amanda Walder now faces serious felony charges, including second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and aggravated battery of an infant.
Despite this unimaginable loss, Jeff and his family carry forward Liam’s memory, channeling their grief into resilience and purpose. Jeff’s unwavering commitment to his professional endeavors and his family’s legacy is a powerful example of strength in adversity.
Legacy and Impact
Jeffrey Koistinen’s life and career are marked by his ability to transform challenges into opportunities. Through his entrepreneurial ventures and technological innovations, he has set new benchmarks for efficiency and transparency in the repossession and financial services industries. Even in the face of profound personal tragedy, Jeff’s dedication to making a difference remains steadfast.
His journey—from building pioneering businesses to navigating personal loss—illustrates the indomitable spirit of a leader who refuses to be defined by circumstances. Instead, Jeff continues to inspire, innovate, and lead, leaving an enduring legacy in his professional field and personal life.
