Men Help, But Men Need Help
Men's mental health is a tough topic to approach, but I believe it's not just mental health that people don't wanna talk about. I believe it's men's issues in general that the general public fails to sympathize and consider. So when I say MEN, many turn off their ears and stop listening. I don't even have to get to the topic of mental health before the audience leaves the room. How do I back this theory with something more than just subjective experience? Shattering Stigma
Mental health is a vital component of our well-being that has often been surrounded by misunderstandings alongside stigmatization with its mention of causing discomfort or fear in many people. When dealing with situations like this one, where emotions are involved, we must prioritize providing solutions. To do this without judgment or fear, we must put the societal issues behind us when developing programs aimed at destigmatizing conversations around addressing emotional needs. Putting more emphasis on educating ourselves about these issues to be better informed would enable us to empathize better, thus allowing us to foster an environment filled with support. Despite appropriate treatments being available to depressed or bipolar patients, socio–cultural barriers such as stigma remain prevalent, discouraging many from actively seeking professional intervention, thus potentially worsening their prognosis. Witnessing its practical impact on those battling depression or anxiety with minimal support available reinforces that great effort needs to be channeled toward reducing this barrier within society.
