Before I dive into the main message of this post, let me share a little background about my friendship with Jason Morton.

To be honest, Jason is the last person I would have expected to become friends with. We first crossed paths on Facebook, specifically through the various Vocal Facebook groups, primarily Vocal + Assist . I read a few of his stories and articles, and I enjoyed them. Jason is a more-than-adequate writer with a wealth of life experience that enhances his storytelling abilities.

Then one afternoon, I came across a political article he had written. The title intrigued me—in a negative way—but it intrigued me enough to click through and read it. I was disappointed by what I read. I disagreed with every word. Jason's political views lean to the right, while mine lean to the left. I ended up commenting on his post, openly expressing my disagreement and explaining why. He responded, and what followed was a heated back-and-forth exchange that was less than friendly. We came close to calling each other names, but we managed to avoid that.

Jason continued posting political stories, and while I commented on one more, I refrained from engaging after that. I remember thinking, "I really don't like this guy."

Several months later, Jason published a story about his stage four prostate cancer diagnosis, revealing that it had spread to other areas. He was given only a few months to live. This news hit me hard, especially because I had my own battle with prostate cancer in 2019-2020. Thankfully, mine was caught early and was easier to treat. Jason's cancer, however, was far more advanced, and his treatments have been much more aggressive.

Jason's brother, Jerome set up a GoFundMe page, and I donated. I could relate to his struggle, and it mattered to me. I took it a step further and started chatting with him via Messenger. I learned that Jason had been a police officer in the outskirts of Chicago and had faced adversity and danger many times. This earned my respect. He also showed a genuine concern for his family and friends, which won me over. I extended my hand in friendship and let him know that I was sincerely concerned for him.

The chemotherapy treatments have been tough on Jason, draining his energy and sometimes even his hope. But the treatments have been working, and the cancer is now under control. His outlook is much better than it was just a few months ago.

Which brings us to the present. Jason has entered the Face of Horror contest. The grand prize is $13,000, which would be a huge help as his share of the chemo treatments has amounted to a substantial sum. Right now, Jason is doing very well in the competition.

You may be wondering, "How can I help Jason win?" You can help by voting for him. Voting is free, and you can vote daily. You can also support him through donation votes, which count as multiple votes. For example, a $13 donation equals 13 votes. Part of the donation will go toward the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit that brings happiness to seriously ill children and their families. https://www.starlight.org

Friends, let’s show Jason—and the world—that community and love for one another still exist. I’ve never met Jason in person, but I feel a kinship for him, and I truly want to see him win this contest. There are several rounds in the competition that Jason must advance through to win. The final round, called The Final Cut, ends on November 6, 2024.

I’ve included a screenshot of the competition schedule. Currently, the competition is in the Ouija Round, and Jason is in the #1 spot. Let’s keep him there!

REMEMBER: You can vote daily for FREE, and donate to vote multiple times.
