Eyes drained in blood

Looking into the eyes of evil, what I always see is “conviction”.

It would be difficult to illustrate this using any other example, so I’ll try to represent it in words. I saw politicians being caught in complete hypocrisy, where they said one thing and turned around and did the exact opposite. This wasn’t just something you could glance over or claim it was misconstrued, rather it was as simple as it gets. They clearly said they weren’t going to do something, and they turned around and did the same thing. Now they had to face the public, their faces filled with hypocrisy, shame, and guilt. They tried their best to deviate from the topic, but there was no way to. The most effective strategy in that case is to try to scapegoat somebody else to take the heat from themselves and onto another person. This sounds funny and a part of us all would like to gloat over this but unfortunately, in some cases, these are life and death decisions that determine the future of so many persons.

In Africa, we are surrounded by corrupt persons who don’t even try to hide how corrupt they are. They take away the resources of millions of people without remorse, and they destroy the futures of countless others. Yet these are the same people who would tell you they are fighting for you and they are doing all they possibly can to ensure your well-being. Meanwhile, you can barely afford to eat while they are purchasing their 10th piece of land and planning their next trip to the Bahamas. I’m not here to complain anymore about what we already know and have witnessed way too many times at this point. I’m here to describe to you what type of people do these kinds of things and what their mindset is.

Controlled by evil

What leads to crime in the first place? It's important to acknowledge the driving force that leads to people committing crimes, which could come from their moral values or the allure of the happiness behind an easy path. I can’t judge an evil person because I understand that, to a certain extent, they aren’t even in control of themselves. I don’t like committing crimes, but there are conditions where I believe I could be forced into resorting to that. This is to say that all these people who commit evil are, for me, much more victims of the systems we created than anything else. Very often they are simply weak-minded people who didn’t dare to do things the right way. It is possible to build a crimeless system, a system with zero tolerance where rules are respected and equity exists, but we’ve deliberately chosen a flawed system where criminals get away under certain conditions. We live in a system where performance has been made subjective and people can lie their way into certain positions, especially those of authority and leadership. You’d think a job that requires the highest amount of competence due to its impact would mandate a high level of competence, but that's not the case.

Looking into the eyes of evil, what I always see is “conviction”.

They are convinced that what they are doing is the right thing to do, and they don't have much of a choice. They have to steal, they have to destroy the lives of some to save others, they are smart, there is no other way, and much more. Even though their actions produce much more destruction than good, they remain convinced it is the right thing to do. Despite all the resentment I may have for them, I really can’t blame them that much because this is the system we’ve created whether we like it or not, a system where results don’t matter. It just takes a charismatic person filled with lies to convince us to give them all power and authority. A system where evil people get to thrive while the good and hardworking person is trampled upon and suffers. Aside from conviction in the eyes of these people, you can feel the greed and the willingness to do whatever it takes to make more and more until there is nothing left.

How we got here

There is a reason why such a system was reached in the first place and the reason is that we refused to embrace hard work. In a bid to make things easier for us all, we let ourselves fall into the temptation of laziness and rewarding mediocrity, so it's not surprising when eventually everything devolves into this state. Mediocre people are elevated, crime is rewarded and evil prospers.

It is because you lack the courage to be hard on your kids that eventually they’ll become lazy people tomorrow ready for whatever. Now when you take it to the high level where people in power are abusing the system for their own profit. It's pretty much the same thing, lazy people ready to do whatever it takes to earn, even if it means killing and destroying everybody else.

Conclusion

There is a possibility that my understanding may be flawed, maybe these people aren’t evil and they are genuinely doing their best. So in order to be objective we need to decide on which metric we want to evaluate them but I don’t think they should be the ones setting the rules. Hard work is always going to be the answer, we need to bring back a system that rewards hard work and condemns mediocrity because for far too long, mediocrity has been winning.
