Bound by Love: A Story of Unbreakable Devotion

The chains were cold, biting into their wrists, yet neither of them flinched. They sat on the damp stone floor of the prison, side by side, hands shackled together — bound not just by metal, but by a love that had endured war, betrayal, and the cruelty of fate.

Isla turned her head slightly, her dark curls brushing Luca’s shoulder. “Do you regret it?” she asked softly, voice barely a whisper against the silence.

Luca looked at her, his eyes still holding the fire that had first drawn her in years ago. “Never. If I had to choose again, I’d still pick you. Every time.”

A lump rose in Isla’s throat. They had been running for so long. Running from the kingdom that called their love treason, from families who had once loved them but could not accept the truth. He, a prince destined for a political marriage; she, a healer’s daughter with no title or power. But what they lacked in nobility, they made up for in fierce, loyal hearts.

They had fled in the dead of night, abandoning the castle’s towering walls and her tiny cottage tucked in the woods. For a while, they were free — living in a forest hut, surviving on berries and stolen glances. But peace never lasted in a world built on power.

The King’s men had found them a week ago.

Dragged back to the capital, bruised and bloodied, they stood before the throne. Isla remembered the fury in the King’s eyes, and the tears hidden behind the Queen’s silence. No trial was offered. No mercy shown. Love, they said, was not reason enough to defy a kingdom.

Their sentence was separation. A lifetime apart in opposite corners of the world. But Luca, always bold, always reckless when it came to Isla, had made one last plea.

“Chain us together,” he had said, voice clear and defiant. “If you must imprison us, then do it properly. We are bound, and no distance will break it.”

The King had laughed cruelly but agreed. And now, here they were. Shackled. Together. In the lowest dungeon of the palace.

Hours passed. Time lost all meaning underground. Guards came and went. Meals were slid beneath the door. But they held onto each other, speaking in whispers and dreams.

One night, Isla woke to find Luca staring at the ceiling, his brows furrowed.

“What is it?” she murmured.

He turned to her, lips curving into a small smile. “I remembered something my mother once said… ‘Even iron yields to time, but love? Love outlasts all.’ I think she knew, somehow.”

“She always liked me,” Isla said, trying to smile.

“She adored you,” Luca corrected. “She just couldn’t say it.”

A silence fell between them again, but it was a comfortable one. The kind that grows between two souls who have spoken all there is, and yet still enjoy the presence of the other.

Days turned to weeks.

One morning, the heavy wooden door creaked open. A young girl in servant’s robes stepped in, eyes darting nervously. In her hand was a scroll.

“It’s from the Queen,” she whispered, slipping it into Isla’s lap. “She says… wait until the bell tolls midnight.”

And then she was gone.

They unrolled the parchment with trembling fingers. A map. A key. A path out of the palace, through underground tunnels only the Queen knew.

Isla looked at Luca, heart pounding. “Do you think it’s real?”

He didn’t answer. He simply kissed her knuckles, where the chains met their skin. “Whether it is or not, I’m with you.”

That night, the bell tolled twelve times.

They moved quickly, silently, every sound amplified in the stillness. The tunnel was narrow, the air thick. But step by step, they found their way forward.

When they emerged beneath the moonlight, breathless and blinking into freedom, Luca lifted their joined hands.

The chains had worn down, brittle with age and rust. With a single strike of a nearby rock, they shattered.

But even as the metal fell away, their fingers remained interlaced.

Bound still.

Not by iron.

But by love.
