7 Best Affordable Honeymoon Destinations
Just Because You Are On A Budget, Doesn't Mean You Can't Live It Up
One of the best parts of wedding planning has nothing to do with the wedding itself . . . it's the honeymoon! With the stress of work, family, friends, limited travel over the last 18 months PLUS wedding planning? You and your partner deserve a vacation! But not everyone has a private yacht or an unlimited amount of funds to put towards that trip of a lifetime.
Here are some budget friendly options that will allow you to rest, recharge, and romance after your big day:
1). Consider A Cruise
Depending on your wedding date (and keeping in mind the health/travel restrictions) a cruise is one of the most affordable ways to see the world and stay on a budget. Many cruise lines offer a drink/alcohol package and all of them have a dining package meaning while you are on board, you aren't paying for food or beverages, they are already taken care of before you get onboard.
Cruise destinations are as varied as your imagination but the most popular include an Alaskan cruise, a Mediterranean cruise, and a Caribbean cruise (and I have also heard WONDERFUL things about Disney cruises).
2). Puerto Rico
I am a personal fan of Puerto Rico. The beaches are gorgeous (hello bioluminescent bay), the people are so friendly, and the food is great! You have to try the mofongo at Mr. Sandwich if you go. Puerto Rico is a short flight away from Miami and with it being a U.S. territory, you don't have to spring for a passport.
3). Big Sur, California
For the outdoorsy, camping loving couples, Big Sur is an excellent choice. A mix of beach coastline with forests and accommodations ranging from luxurious to cabins, Big Sur is a great choice for those who want a more active honeymoon with the bonus that most of the activities are low cost like hiking, what's not to love?
4). Colorado
Legal weed and I believe mushrooms are either legal there or will be soon, Colorado known for it's breathtaking views and landscapes is a fun honeymoon choice. It's like a budget Amsterdam without the hookers.
5). New Orleans
The Big Easy which is known for it's amazing food, culture, and love of the night life. New Orleans is a great honeymoon choice for foodie couples. You have to go to one crawfish boil while you are there and prepare to get messy. Also, for the budget conscious avoid the Mardis Gras season as hotel prices SKY ROCKET. Check out the ghost tours and rich culture in this Southern jewel of a city.
6). Jamaica
You will need a passport for this Caribbean destination but the free spirited vibe combined with budget friendly all inclusive results make it worth it. Many of the resorts like RIU, Sandals, and Couples Swept Away cater to couples and your payment to them covers accommodations, food, and drinks (even gratuity) so the only things you need to bring extra money for are shopping, off resort excursions, and off resort dining (do so at your own risk but I enjoy leaving the resort and having authentic food, best advice, get a recommendation from your hotel staff on the best places to go when you get there).
7). The Great State of Florida
I am biased with my love of the Sunshine state, so much so, I made it my home base. You have so many options within Florida to choose from. You have the white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast, Destin and Pensacola are absolutely beautiful and they excel at brunch to Orlando, home of both Disney World and Universal Studios to Miami for the night life to the Keys for some great fishing and outdoor scenes. Florida is a great option for those on the East coast due to the ability to drive and avoid airfare.
So there you have it, seven great destinations for your honeymoon all on a budget.
