Your Body Is Always Listening

How Your Thoughts and Words Can Impact Your Body

Your body is always listening

Do you ever just sit and listen to your thoughts? Have you ever taken a moment to pause and witness what you are thinking?

Most mindfulness techniques, including meditation and yoga, all aid in the witnessing of our thoughts. They allow us to step back from what we are thinking, without judgement, and watch the ego mind-chatter.

Have you ever contemplated that your body might be listening to your thoughts?

In 1994, Dr Masaru Emoto decided to freeze water and study it under the microscope. He soon made a miraculous discovery. He found that water responded to the words he said. After several study of putting words on the front of jars and then freezing the water to examine the reaction, it was clear that there was a direct link between the words used and the water's make-up. It was found that when the water had negative words on the glass such as "You Make Me Sick," the water looked sluggish and almost scattered. When the water had positive words like "Love And Gratitude" on the glass, the most beautiful crystals were formed.

(More information on this study can be found online by searching "water crystals." The images are amazing!)

This study began a new train of thought... If water has been scientifically shown to react to the words we use, then what are we doing to our bodies?!

Around 60% of the human body is made up of water. Every organ and every bone in our body holds a percentage of water.

Now take a moment to imagine the kinds of words you use about yourself on a daily basis. Are they positive? Are they negative? Take a moment for it to really sink in.

We are all love at our core. When we are our flow and we feel right within ourselves, we know that this is where we are truly meant to be. Any feeling outside of this is either a fight to get back or disappointment that we aren't in this state of personal bliss. We tend to get annoyed at ourselves because we are not happy. Then we are unhappy because we get annoyed at ourselves. Can you see the cycle? :)

RIGHT! Time for some truth: WE ALL HAVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS! Don't get caught up on the fact that you have negative thoughts. You are human after all. We are all allowed to have negative thoughts too. They can actually be really healing. However, it is good to recognise that you have these thoughts to help you in the first step towards being positive!

Here are the steps I use to help me come back to a state of personal bliss:

1) Recognise your intention behind your thoughts—are you being kind to yourself/others? Are you judging? Simply recognise these thoughts.

2) If you are having a "moment," know that it only has to be a moment!—I find that mantras are really helpful for bringing me back to a state of peace. The mantra I use is from Gabrielle Berstein's book The Universe Has Your Back and is as follows: I recognise that I have chosen fear, and I choose again. I CHOOSE LOVE.

3) GRATITUDE! Gratitude is one of the best energies to bring us back to love. Imagine now something that you are grateful for. It can be anything! A roof over your head, socks, a promotion, knowledge you have, friends, family, YOU! Imagine that gratitude as a light in the centre of your chest. What colour is it? What texture is it? Does it have a shape? It doesn't matter if you can't visualise it. Know that there is a light in the centre of your chest. Let that light grow and expand throughout your body. Let it fill every atom of your being. See it filling every organ, your muscles, bones and skin. Allow the light to overflow from your body through every cell and witness yourself shining!

4) Know that you are love! Whether you are spiritual or not, we can all recognise that at our core we are love. When we are in our bliss, we shine! Everything seems to flow better, colours seem brighter, and life is that much better.

5) Know that you are worthy of this feeling, always! You deserve to be happy. No matter what life has thrown at you.. YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY.

6) Set it in stone! You now have 5 steps to get you back to peace. Now you can set it in stone to reaffirm to your body, mind and being that this mindset is here to stay. You can do this by writing down your negative thoughts and burning the paper. I do this to let go of what I no longer need. Make sure you do this safely, finding a flame proof bowl or jar, and maybe doing it outside. If you have a log fire, then use that, but be careful. This process affirms to you and the universe that you are ready to let go and allow more positive energy into your life!

The next time you witness your thoughts and the ego mind-chatter, just come back to these steps and know that you are positively affecting your body, your health, and your mind! It doesn't matter if you don't remember them all. If you remember even one of the steps, you are still on your way to a more positive mindset.

Happy thinking! :) <3 xoxo
