You’re Important Too

Don’t you forget

I’m one of those people who put their problems away from some other time. I’m one of those people who would put everything aside to help a friend, loved one or even a strange. Sounds familiar? Yea, before we know it, we have a ginormous ball of problems and things that have to be taken care of in such little time, so now we are stressing out driving ourselves insane. I was too busy making sure everybody around me was happy that I forgot about my own happiness and mental health. So I’ve created a routine of things I do/will be doing going forward to make sure I prioritze myself.

PAINTING

Now art is something I have never been into but one day someone gave me some paint and brushes and I found myself lost into rainbow colors and beautiful creations I can make. Painting has really helped me express emotion and let go all of my stress on a canvas. The great thing about painting is that you don’t have to be good at it, you just paint what you feel. Who knows, maybe you’ll find the artist within you.

HIKING

Nature’s therapy… I’ll walk trails, climb mountains and run over the hills just to see what beauty nature has created. I love a challenge, and what’s a better challenge than that long trail leading to a beautiful waterfall? Hiking challenges you both mentally and physically. I will sometimes feel like giving up in the middle of my journey but then I tell myself that I can do it! Once I reach my destination, it’s just such a wonderful experience and such an accomplished feeling. Not only did I get to see beautiful plants and streams of water, but I got a great workout and I will be sleeping very comfortable that night.

BAKING

Creating something to eat has got to be one of my favorite things to do. I’ve never done much baking but it will be something I will be adding to my daily activities. To me, it’s very relaxing, not to mention, I am in total control of what will be going on. Baking helps distract me not only mentally but physically, practically keeping me occupied. If you’re anything like me, food is a comfort especially when it’s a tasty treat I made all by myself. I can’t wait to see what level of baking I’m capable of doing.

CHESS

Okay, this one might not be for everyone but let me tell you how much I enjoy this game. A few months ago a friend and I decided to play chess online knowing nothing about the game. After a while we both gave up because we had no idea what we were doing, but it left me curious to learn about the game. I started to read about chess and watch videos online. A few months later and I know how the pieces move and how to play. I have never enjoyed a game so much, I really wish I can go back in time and tell my younger selfhood players chess. Chess is a game that will have your mind really running and requires skill. Chess takes away all my attention and that moment and has me predicting what’s going to happen next. I highly recommend learning the game to challenge your mind in a way you never thought possible.

Those are just a few things I will be doing to improve my life a little. It took me a long time to realize that my own mental health and happiness is very important. I feel like I now have full control of my life again. There are days we are going to stress out but remember, one little change as simple as baking a cake can really make a difference. Remember to put yourself first, take care of yourself first and do what makes you happy.
