Where are you Superman?

Trust the process

By Gold Leaf Published 6 years ago 4 min read

I want you to do something for me: Turn to your wife, talk to her, look deep into her eyes and nourish her with your presence. Communicate with her. Make her laugh even. Watch as she unfolds like a rose.

Firstly though, get off your phone. What’s out there will never be the same as what’s in front of you.

This, if you allow it could be a side effect of Coronavirus. A rediscovery of who and what you are.

In the words of Achilles; “Go home, make love to your wife” 😜

I guess what I’m trying to say is that although I’m unsure if we are entering the Age of Reason or maybe some weird new romantic period; I urge you to listen in on the lessons right now. Patience, what really matters.

First of all, I’d like to say that this piece has not been written in the midst of the hysteria. I have spent some time reflecting, thinking, feeling. And I am here because I see things in a different way these days. I am already seeing the somewhat amazing effects Coronavirus has had on the Earth. I am astounded. We really are moving towards a better tomorrow.

I have written countless poems, and anecdotes throughout this process. But there are mindblowing times ahead. Even in the midst of a situation that has effected and touched the lives of so many. There is more to come. Wait and be amazed I keep feeling.

First of all, the last two years of my life I have come to realise how important the family unit it. How charity starts at home, but ultimately how we can learn from each other and our differences. We don’t have to always agree.. everyone’s journey is different.

But what better way could be thought out in order to remind people what is important. To learn patience, to learn that when the doors open up again we will be propelled into something new, and maybe we don’t have to take matters into our own hands right now.

What other situation could shut down cities, towns, letting the animals go out and do their thing. What more accurate way to sort ourselves out, stopping us from going to the pub every night of the week, reminding us that we have been too distracted on this planet for too We have a forgotten the all too beautiful connections that were already designed for us before we decided to all be heroes. After all, there is a time and place for us all. And it doesn’t all have to be right now.

If there is one major lesson I have learnt in my life, it is that if there is a predatory situation that arrives is that perhaps the best thing we can do is simply shut it out. Let the storm pass and work from the inside out.

The social media effects this has had has also been frightening at times. Social media has given us a platform to speak openly and freely but so too often we do not think we before speak (post). The saying should be “Think before you post” these days really. But seeing so much negativity and hatred and the countless toilet paper stories was just too much to bare for me at times. After all, maybe the lesson is that there is always enough to go round.

In the last two years I had developed a strong adversity to toilet paper. Sorry I mean social media. There were times that I wished social media had coronavirus. It felt in its own way like a type of prison. After all, I, like you am a soul with real feelings and emotions. And I want be kind to all. But the differentiating factor lies in that my true time and attentions is really only designed for a small few. Not for the masses. On this Earth anyway.

I had taken the vow to get completely off it. But there really was nowhere I could run from it. And now the only main form of outside contact being on social media platforms amidst Covid 19 have been left with little choice. At this time at least. I don’t want to live in a world that is stuck on the web. I hope it doesn’t last forever. Eventually I want to see beautiful, tradition human connection and love restored. But for now it’s out of our hands. We are not, and never wear in control.

What we can do, at this time perhaps is clean up our act. Remember fully, that people have real problems and emotions off that screen. Now more so than ever. What you see, is definitely not always wha you get.

This generation of westernised society has never been put to a test such as this. Many of our boys have not (thankfully) experienced war, a fight for country, or been trained to acquire a deep understanding of how to navigate an electronic, visual and instantly gratifying world.

Maybe we have to be ok with isolation. Be ok with stillness. Let the workers work. And let the “be-ers” be. Right now anyway.

If we can overcome what we want then we can get what we need.

There are so many beautiful charities and organisations thriving right now. But never underestimate the power of picking up the phone to a friend. It could change their world.
