The NDIS is Even More Flexible Now- Here's all you Need to Know About It

The NDIS is Even More Flexible Now

By Access FoundationPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

We all know how NDIS has been working to improve people's lives having disabilities in Australia by providing NDIS funding to achieve their goals. Recently, NDIS has made some changes in its rules.

These changes are about how people can spend their budgets. The main aim of bringing this change is to make it easier for people with disability to meet their NDIS goals.

The recent changes in the NDIS rules will help the participants after the changes, and everyone can use their core supports flexibly.

These new NDIS rules enable the participants to do the following-

- Move the NDIS funds around the different core areas to suit their needs

- Use your NDIS funding however your plan is managed

After the changes, the NDIS participants will not have to go through the plan review to use their NDIS budget.

The participants can now use their NDIS funds according to what works the best for them without asking for a plan review. They can also buy a smart device to continue their support with the core funds. They can even use the funding for transport so that you can move around safely.

Now, isn't this great news?

The recent changes in the NDIS rules will offer greater flexibility to the participants as they have always wanted.

And the best thing about the changes is, they are made permanent and not going to disappear after the Coronavirus pandemic gets over.

From June onwards, the participants with core supports were allowed to use their core funding without going through a plan review meeting.

The changes in the NDIS will automatically be applied to all the new and existing participants having core support funding.

How will this change help with transport funding flexibility?

Those NDIS participants who receive periodic transport payments will continue to get the funding into their bank account and will be able to use this core funding to pay for the transport costs included in their plan. These funds cannot be used for other core supports.

Participants who don't already receive the periodic transport payments will also use their core NDIS funding across all four support categories for transport costs flexibly.

The third case is when you already have periodic transport payments already in your plan, you will be able to use the core funding for three support categories but not for transport category.

NDIS also has made some changes in the pricing that have come into action from July 1.

Let's see what these pricing-related changes are-

- Cancellations

- Psychological recovery cash

- High intensity supports

- Low-cost assistive technology

- Group based supports

These are some of the pricing-related changes that will help the NDIS participants use their core funding more flexibly.

After the NDIS news about making changes in the rules, participants will be able to make changes to their plan without a review which is a great relief to those who had to go through several plan review meetings due to minor changes in their situation.

Using your NDIS funding has never been easier!

With the recent changes, all thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, it will significantly impact the lives of people with disability as they will now quickly and flexibly use their funding without any stress.

Because of the NDIS changes, the participants will use their core support budget freely, which means there will be flexibility in accessing the disability-related supports that the people with disability need to achieve their NDIS goals.

All the NDIS participants must remember that NDIS funding is for disability-related supports, and the participants cannot use this funding for everyday living costs.
