Cravings are hard to deal with. Sugar craving is quite common for many people, not just type 1 diabetics. Alcohol is similar to sugar as it is a fermented form of sugar. Alcoholics are also sugar junkies. One way of curbing a sugar craving is to drink water or broth made of chicken or beef. Sugar cravings can go away eventually, in particular, if you know you have had enough. If water can help release a sugar craving, it is because you were just thirsty. Also, sugar cravings can be helped with eating more meat if you are not vegetarian.
Distancing yourself from cravings can involve doing something else to distract yourself from the craving such as going for a walk or taking a deep breath in order to practice deep breathing. Taking a shower can also help sugar cravings. Throwing more meat at sugar cravings does help. Beef, chicken or pork can really help reduce sugar cravings. Truvia is a non-sugar sweetener that has the same effect but that is from a natural source, also called stevia. Stevia works very well because it is as sweet as normal sugar. Sugar is very much addictive however.
The root of addiction is all about not having a way to cope with feelings you are repressing. A real feeling that is repressed is something that triggers a sugar craving. Sugar cravings go away eventually, as do alcohol cravings. Giving up alcohol is work, granted. Low blood sugar causes extreme hunger, even in non-diabetics. Low blood sugar wipes you out. It can make you crave sugar as well, or for that matter, food. Similar techniques work for food addiction also. Many addictive behaviors are triggered by stress. Stress causes a person to be addicted to various substances including but not limited to marijuana. The best way to stop your addiction is to control your stress.
Stress management is not easy for people prone to stress, since stress makes you eat more. Stress raises cortisol hormones in a person, cortisol being the hormone that makes you gain weight. Getting enough sleep is crucial to practical weight loss. Eating in a calm and slow manner can help curb addictive behaviors as well. Eating slowly is eating with a mind to pay attention to what you are chewing. Eating well can take five minutes give or take. So make your food choices wisely.
Real meals have to include a protein, a fiber, and a vegetable on the side. A dish such as chicken, vegetables, and mashed potatoes is a full meal. Another way to beat sugar cravings involves not going to the supermarket hungry. Sugar cravings are happening because of a biochemical imbalance in the brain. Chocolate chip cookies can relax some people who have low serotonin levels. Chocolate chip cookies ease anxiety in those sorts of people. Cheese is also addicting because of the dopamine increase cheese can give to those who are addicted to that food. If you do not eat often enough, it is necessary to make sure that you get your calories from one bulk meal that means you do not have to eat again because of the calorie content.
Sugar cravings are easy to get rid of. Broth, as mentioned earlier, can help reduce the craving. Alcoholism is just as bad as sugar to kick since alcohol is just a bunch of added calories anyway. It is important to stay away from processed foods, since sugar, fat, and salt are more intense in that type of food. The same thing happens when going out to eat. Restaurants use a lot of salt. This is why I eat from home give or take. Caffeine can trigger sugar cravings and sugar cravings can trigger caffeine cravings. Caffeine sensitivity is also a real addiction as real as sugar addiction. Caffeine cravings come about from feeling tired, and this is a feeling as though you have to use caffeine to wake yourself up. The best way to deal with any craving scenario is to get enough sleep, as well as face your craving head on.
