The Magical Properties of Cinnamon

By Little AlicePublished 5 years ago 3 min read
Cinnamon is an ancient and versatile spice

Cinnamon (or Cassia) is one of the most ancient and versatile spices. Cassia is the version found and used most frequently today, while "True Cinnamon" is much harder to come by and does not have as strong of a scent. This spice is a simple and powerful addition to any practice.

Cinnamon has many uses

The elements Air and Fire, and the "planet" The Sun, are evoked by the use of cinnamon in spells and rituals. As such, be sure to balance out with the elements of Water and Earth when working complex spells that involve other ingredients. This makes cinnamon great for Love or Sex spells, as well as Luck, Money Drawing, and Prosperity. Surprisingly, cinnamon also has strong spiritual properties, making it great for recharging psychic powers and for cleansing negative energy.

Bake it, brew it, smudge it

The versatility of cinnamon makes it a must for any practice. It's also edible, which makes it even more fun to use. Whip up a little kitchen magic love with fresh baked cookies, or brew a mug of cinnamon spiced coffee. Put a stick, or ground, cinnamon in a sachet with other herbs and trinkets to carry with you for luck. Place a few drops of cinnamon essential oil in a vial necklace, or diluted in massage oil to keep the scent about you for drive and success. There are so many different ways to utilize cinnamon, and in so many forms too.

Spice up your love life, literally

Has the flame dimmed in the bedroom? Are you looking to spice up your love life? Or perhaps snag someone new? Try using cinnamon to stoke that fire. The scent of cinnamon triggers the release of oxytocin , better known as the "cuddle hormone". You can burn a cinnamon stick, brew cinnamon tea, or use diluted cinnamon essential oil to set the mood and catch those feelings. Be sure to test diluted cinnamon oil on a patch of skin before using it as a massage oil. Many are sensitive to cinnamon. Use with caution.

Brew up a batch of cinnamon tea

Feeling under the weather or lethargic? Cinnamon tea is a great way to drive your energy or give your immune system a boost. Cinnamon is an antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-acid, and anti-inflammatory ; making it great for both your spiritual and physical health. Brewing cinnamon tea is great for oral care or treating heartburn. It can also be used to stimulate contractions and bring on labor for an overdue pregnancy.

Smudge with cinnamon

Did you know you can smudge with cinnamon sticks? It's great for clearing out negative energy and provides grounding properties to your spells. It also makes your home smell warm and fragrant, whereas sage can be unpleasant to some. For added protection, tie a bundle of cinnamon sticks with a ribbon and hang it above your entryway to keep out unwanted energies. Place a few sticks of cinnamon is a cup or a dish in your kitchen to boost your kitchen magic works.

Celebrate the holidays

Cinnamon is a great ingredient for celebrating Yule and Esbat . It can be added to hot drinks and food served at your party, or laid out as offerings for your ritual. Cinnamon pinecones tossed onto the fire are also a great way to evoke the spirit of the season.

Charge up your psychic abilities

Supercharge your divination spells with cinnamon incense or essential oil. Cinnamon is known for boosting psychic power and is a great way to boost your divine energy. Drinking cinnamon tea, or burning cinnamon can boost third eye spiritual awareness and clarity . It can also be used to help charge tarot cards and runes by placing a cinnamon stick in their storage bag or box.
