Snacks That Help You Stay Healthy When You’re on the Move
Have these at hand to help you stay healthy
It can become all too easy to reach for those unhealthy snacks when we've found ourselves busy and on the move.
Whether it's in the workplace or on the road, cafeterias and convenience stores make it so handy to satisfy our hunger and put our cravings to bed. That's why it will always be helpful to have a healthy snack at hand.
Knowing what some of the healthy snacks are will put you in the driving seat. It gives you the knowledge both to plan ahead and the confidence that what you choose will help serve your health, weight, and your goals.
Healthy Snacks to Bring With You
Here are some healthy snacks that you're free to enjoy when you've found yourself in a pinch and in need of that quick burst of energy to get you through the day:
- Nuts
- Fruit
- Dark chocolate
- Snacking cheese
- Healthy snack bars
- Coconut butter
- Salami or chorizo chips
- Biltong
As you can see there are options out there that can satisfy your cravings, whether you've got a sweet tooth or enjoy a more savoury type of snack.
The key is to choose those with minimal ingredients and that come from natural sources. For fruit, choosing local and organic will be the best choice, both for you and the environment around you.
Snack bars can be a bit more tricky since those often branded as "healthy" often come packed with unhealthy ingredients. You'll want to choose those that:
- Have less sugar
- Contain no vegetable oils
- Are additive-free
Nuts can sometimes be coated in honey and have lots of added sugar too. Just go for raw or roasted nuts without the extras and you'll be doing just fine.
When it comes to dark chocolate, the general rule of thumb is the higher the cocoa content the better. Dark chocolate with 70% cocoa or more is generally recommended.
Snacking cheese can come as a small, chilled portion of cheese that you can keep in your fridge while at work. Alternatively, cheese bites are a great option that pack like crisps for when you're on the road.
Make the Best Choice You Can
Just try and be sensible when you're snacking and plan ahead when you're in need. There will always be a time when you're feeling tired, hungry, or just in need of a snack that's going to make your diet more enjoyable.
Healthy eating isn't always easy. But by being prepared, you can make it all the easier.

Cacao vs. Cocoa: Which One is Healthier
Many with a sweet tooth have started making a switch over to dark chocolate while trying to stay healthy. This "superfood" has become a popular treat enjoyed by many within the health community. Add it to your diet and reap all of the amazing benefits it brings!
I'm an advocate of a little bit of dark chocolate. I love the stuff! But I do have to be honest: while I do believe there to be benefits, I think there's a cause for caution too.
The Difference Between Cacao and Cocoa
Not all chocolate is created equal. Cacao is made by fermenting the beans at a low temperature. It's still considered raw, has a lighter colour, and preserves the majority of the antioxidants.
People often tend to view cacao as the healthier option since cocoa involves processing at a higher heat causing some of the polyphenols and flavanols to be lost in the process (pardon the pun!)
The antioxidants, rich in cacao, are believed to have the following benefits to us:
- Better hearth health
- Prevention of disease
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Improved circulation
