You have control of how you feel about yourself.

That’s kind of scary, if you dissect how deep that statement is. Often times, I personally feel I have no control in my life. Do you ever feel like this? Having no control of our lives does not mean we have no control of our feelings.

Self-worth is how you feel about yourself and what your value is. Today I attended an online seminar. It was not about self-worth. I probably wouldn’t have decided to take the class, as I was not prepared to self reflect. I had no choice but to listen, fortunately I did. Since I’ve written about self reflection, I know how hard it is to self reflect. Forgiveness is the key to change.

To determine your self-worth, you must self reflect. Is this fun? Not at all. Is it helpful? Very much so. The class I’m taking is preparing me to become a life coach. We have to decide what we will charge per hour. Making these decisions, led us to asking ourselves about our self-worth.

The Mayo Clinic points out that negative thoughts and beliefs determine how we feel about ourselves. When we have any negative thoughts that we wouldn’t share with a friend, then we shouldn’t listen to our thoughts. Become aware of what you think and how you feel. Self-awareness and self reflection will help us bury negativity. It’s easy to think negative, positive thinking, not so much.

The rapper NF has some meaningful words in his song Remember This. This song makes you think about all the people that may be keeping you from knowing your self-worth. “Surround yourself with people that challenge how you think. Always be yourself, not the person you pretend to be. Anyone can take your life, but not what you believe in. The real you is who you are when ain’t nobody watchin. It’s not about what people think, it’s how you feel inside”.

This is all very profound. We all listen to what others say. When words are drilled in your head, you start believing them, even if they are negative. Remember what he said, it’s how you believe inside. Your self-worth cannot be determined by anyone but you. You are in control.

We should set goals for ourselves. We will not allow anyone else to judge what we accomplish. They can talk and judge all they want, but remember, we are in control of what WE feel inside. That is all that matters. It’s a lot of hard work. Are you worth it?

Doing a personal self check and looking in the mirror; this will help us see who we are. It will be in our control to determine our self-worth. What do you think you are worth per hour? Minimum wage or high dollar?

When we do our self check, we should look inside ourselves. I’ll give you my personal example. When I look inside, I see a broken soul that chose to overcome many obstacles. I am a compassionate person and willing to help anyone. My self check also includes forgiveness. I was willing to change my thoughts and thinking. Remember that forgiveness is the key to change.

Forgiving ourselves is not an easy task. Nothing about change is easy. We are in control of ourselves, therefore we have the ability and the responsibility to be better. Once we recognize this, our self-worth will allow us to value ourselves.

When we value ourselves, we see what we are worth. People will see this as confident. Confidence says a lot about you. In a way, it tells a story. Your story may start off with you not having a dime to your name. It will not end that way. We have the confidence to be rich. We value ourselves.
