New Year’s Resolution to Grow Healthy in 2022
Another new year is here, and with it comes another chance to start afresh. New Year’s are all about that rush of hope and the zeal to achieve more and better. And all of that definitely starts with a new year’s resolution list.
While you might have already had a few resolutions in mind, here are a few more you can add if you are rethinking your health habits…
Tips to Grow Healthy in 2022
Several people make health resolutions every new year only to drop them in a month. Instead of setting the resolutions bar too high only to blow it and be back to the status quo, let’s keep it simple for 2022…
1. Go for a 30-minute walk daily
Quite common, isn’t it? It is indeed, however, the benefits of a daily 30-minute walk cannot simply be ignored. Walking increases our metabolism rate and helps burn some extra calories. So, instead of resolutely deciding upon losing weight, or getting fit, begin with a reasonable goal of walking 30 minutes every day.
You can add more minutes, or workout types based on convenience. However, a little physical activity is better than no activity at all.
2. Maintain a healthy sleep routine
Proper sleep for at least 8 to 9 hours a day helps promote physical as well as mental health. However, with so many temptations around, television, the internet, and more, it gets difficult to keep up with a sleep routine. So, here’s a goal within a goal: limit screen time to maintain a healthy routine. Apart from ruining sleep and impacting our bodies, excessive screen time can lead to anxiety and depression. Pick other habits rather, like reading a book, or plugging into some relaxing music and avoiding screens 30 minutes before bed.
3. Focus on a healthy diet
Staying fit and healthy is a long-term goal, a paradigm for living, and not just a resolution. Focus on proper meals that include whole foods, like vegetables, proteins, fruits, and whole grains. For some extra dash of nutrients add in some supplements and multivitamins.
If you love snacking, don’t just stop completely, snack mindfully. Instead of picking a chocolate bar with nothing but calories, pick a chocolaty granola bar. It will keep you full for some time, provide healthy fats and give you energy. Slowly cut down on sugar from beverages and switch to healthy sweeteners.
4. Soak in that Vitamin D
As we age, our bone and muscle health falters and our immune systems grow weak. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for wise and healthy aging. It is known to improve bone health, and prevent chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart diseases, and more.
15-20 minutes of daily sun exposure helps us gain enough Vitamin D and taking supplemental vitamin D only makes it better. Here’s more to read on wise and healthy aging.
5. Say yes to more water
Here's a rule of thumb when drinking water: take your body weight in pounds and divide it by two. That’s how many ounces of water you need to take daily.
However, in 2022, add 16 ounces more; that is another average bottle of water.
Staying hydrated has multiple benefits that we often forget. From maximizing our physical abilities to improving brain power, it is a miracle fluid.
6. Address your mental health every now and then
Maintaining your physical health is easy; following some steps here and tips there, and you are right on track. Mental health however is precious, and maintaining it requires practice.
As the 30-minute workout routine made it to our list, you can squeeze in a 10-minute meditation post-workout.
Meditation relaxes our muscles, helps fight age-related complications like amnesia, reduces stress and anxiety, and so much more.
We hope you meet your resolutions not for the sake of resolutions but for a healthy body and mind. More power to you, and a Happy New Year!
