Meditation for Creators
Ode to the Movers and Shakers...who can't stop moving and shaking.
"We are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems."
- English poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy
This meditation is for the movers and shakers of the world, but especially those shaking in anxiety, constantly and forever in a state of motion. This for those with that annoying imposter syndrome, for those desperately seeking and working toward that stage of Perfection with a capital "P". This is for you.
To begin: breathe deep. The world wants you to breathe. The world will still keep on turning even if you step aside for a moment to breathe. No harm will come from breathing. You are designed to breathe. You deserve to stop and breathe. Breathe deep. Breathe in the world. Breathe in the world you love...then release it away. Take in as much oxygen as you need. Take as much time as you need. Breathe in for 3....and out for 3. Breathe in for 3 counts....hold for 3 counts...and release for 3 counts.
Imagine your mind as a radio and your consciousness as a radio dial. There's tons of radio stations you can listen to...your boss chastising your performance... your mother lecturing your appearance... your own inner task-master shaming you for meditating when you should be working. But right now, tune your station to your own true voice, commenting only the space around you. Your world may be imperfect right now -- the trash may be piling up, the clothes may be unwashed for weeks, maybe the clothes you're wearing right now have gone unwashed for weeks. But for a moment, just take it in exactly as it is. No more, no less. Comment only on what's actually there, not what your friends or your sister or your landlord would think if they saw it. Look and take note only of what YOU think of it.
Touch the floor or the ground below you. Feel how sturdy it is, how it supports you and holds you up. Think of how long this floor or this ground has been here before you came along. Look at the walls held up around you. The ceiling protecting you. Witness the world around you.
They say consciousness was created for the Universe to experience itself. The only duty or task you have in exchange for life is to experience the living world. You don't have to work for your spot on the planet. You're here. You've done it. You've already succeeded.
Breathe deep again. Fill your lungs. Imagine your lungs are two budding flowers, pushed into full, glorious bloom by the oxygen you are filling them with. Breathing is creating. Existing is creating. There's no need to push yourself so hard to make and make and make...you are a living organism, letting time and space flow through you. You are the creation, enjoying creation. Your writing, your art, your dreams, whatever form of expression you like flows effortlessly through you, just as time and space do. Pressing the pencil harder into the page does not make the handwriting better. Let your passion flow out of you like effortless cursive writing.
There is no planet in the universe quite like Earth, and there is no living creature on Earth quite like you. You are perfect, here and now. You were born perfect, you didn't ever need to earn it. You are it. You are alive. You are real. You are breathing. You are perfection.
Stay in this state of being as long as you like, there is no rush to return. Let this moment last as long as it wants to.
Thank you. Have a beautiful rest of your day!
