Hello guys, Being a doctor as well a Chronic kidney disease patient for me this is a special topic for me to write 😁🫂 , I also want to. tell cause of CKD for me is a congenital birth defect called PUJ obstruction so I don’t think being doctor I have not taken care of my kidneys 😅😅 HaHaHa ……

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition characterized by the gradual loss of kidney function over time. While CKD is irreversible, its progression can be delayed significantly through a combination of proper medical care and healthy lifestyle habits. Early and consistent intervention is the key to preserving kidney function and avoiding end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Below are 10 evidence-based ways to slow CKD progression:

1. Control Blood Pressure

Generally Blood pressure start rising in a ckd patient when he just touch his or her stage 3 Ckd . Targeting a blood pressure of less than 130/80 mmHg (as per current guidelines) with medications like ACE inhibitors or ARBs can protect kidney function by reducing proteinuria and glomerular damage.I know you will be wondering what ACE Inhibitor and what is ARBs Never mind guys that are anti hypertensive medication that your doctor will prescribe we will focus how we can reduce our Bp naturally ,

1st you should be either walking or jogging for atleast 30 mins daily then you can see your bp dropping within a month , then should avoid salt and fried foods completely in your diet and lastly start taking Ketoanologues it is a supplement you can get at pharmacy which is life saving guys believe me it is not a bad thing approved by WHO ( World Helath Organization) we prescribe to our pateints regularly once they touch stage 3 of the disease

2. Manage Blood Sugar Levels

Diabetes is a leading cause of CKD. Keeping blood glucose levels within the recommended range (HbA1c around 7%) can reduce kidney damage. This involves regular monitoring, medication compliance, and dietary control.

And here I would recommend , to avoid soft drinks like Pepsi, and other shits…

3. Reduce Proteinuria

Persistent protein in urine accelerates kidney damage. Drugs such as ACE inhibitors and ARBs not only lower blood pressure but also reduce proteinuria. Regular urine tests are essential to monitor this parameter.

And here I would recommend you to avoid taking Red meats which are very much rich in proteins

4, Follow a Kidney-Friendly Diet

Adopt a low-protein, low-sodium, and low-potassium diet (depending on the stage of CKD and lab values). Consult with a renal dietitian to personalize your nutrition plan. Avoid red meat and prefer plant-based protein in moderate amounts.

5, Stay Hydrated (But Not Overhydrated)

While staying hydrated is important, excessive fluid intake can strain the kidneys in CKD patients. Follow your doctor’s advice on optimal fluid intake based on your condition.

6, Avoid NSAIDs and Nephrotoxic Drugs

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen can worsen kidney function. Always consult your doctor before taking any over-the-counter medication or herbal supplement.

7,Quit Smoking

Smoking reduces blood flow to the kidneys and increases the risk of high blood pressure and kidney failure. Quitting smoking is one of the most effective lifestyle changes for slowing CKD progression.

8,Limit Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase blood pressure and interfere with medications. If you drink, do so in moderation—no more than one drink per day for women and two for men.

9, Maintain a Healthy Weight

Obesity increases the risk of diabetes and hypertension. Losing excess weight through balanced diet and physical activity can directly benefit kidney function and slow down disease progression.

10,Mental Health and Stress Management

Chronic illness can lead to depression and anxiety, which may affect treatment adherence. Practicing stress-relieving activities like yoga, meditation, hobbies, or seeking professional support can improve quality of life and health outcomes.

Conclusion

Delaying the progression of CKD requires a multi-pronged approach involving medical treatment, lifestyle modifications, and regular monitoring. While the disease may be chronic, proactive management can preserve kidney function for years, enhance quality of life, and prevent or delay the need for dialysis or transplantation. Always work closely with your healthcare team to create a personalized care plan that suits your needs and medical condition.
