Kong Fit Club: Work(out) From Home
Meagan Kong's Kong Fit Club launches Work(out) From Home to bring community together virtually and keep it moving through these challenging times.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in quarantine thus far, it’s just how important community truly is. I don’t know about you, but I have definitely upped my screen time by watching Instagram Lives of those from both my personal life and public figures from all walks of life around the world. Getting a glimpse into someone’s personal life (and home) and seeing that they are going through the exact same struggles as you is ironically comforting. It levels the playing field and brings a sense of connection everyone can feel, even through our screens.
Moreover, it is no doubt that bringing people together, virtually, gives us hope, courage and support as we all take part in this quarantine journey together. One small business that is a clear example of the great joys community can bring during this time (and even before) is Kong Fit Club. Kong Fit Club, or KFC, was created by Founder, Meagan Kong, a professional dancer, Adidas Global Ambassador, and now turned entrepreneur of a fitness club located in Los Angeles. This is not your typical fitness club – Kong Fit Club is reimagining what the fitness experience can be when you team up with various fitness studios and trainers across one’s city. Prior to the pandemic, KFC met in-person three times a month to experiment taking classes at different studios and from top trainers around Los Angeles that one would typically not have access to if they belonged to a single gym. As a dancer, Meagan understands the importance of variation in one’s fitness routine, and thus, wanted to bring her community along side her to join in on her fitness journey and to smile through the pain together.
Now a bit about Kong Fit Club from the words of Meagan Kong:
“We’re a club not a class, because our work isn’t done in an hour and you can’t find success in one place. We stand for consistency and accountability, recognizing that sweat is the ultimate equalizer and together we can build our best selves.
Kong Fit Club explores the fitness world through my lens by shedding light on the people and places that have shaped my body, mind, and soul. Whether it’s the trainer who perfected my form, the boxing class that served as therapy or the hike where I found solace, each event provides the opportunity to explore what impacts you.”
As one can see, Meagan’s mission is fueled with passion for both staying active and bringing community together, and that holds especially true during this time. Kong has found a way to both give back to those instructors that would typically teach the club’s classes, as well as her small business, by mindfully curating a weekly schedule coined Work(out) From Home. This program allows access to top of the line trainers, physical therapists and movement specialists to everyone from the comfort of their home for an extremely reduced price. With that, she takes the money to give back to support those who have supported her – the instructors, brands and her own employees. While also acknowledging the times we are in, there have been multiple classes offered for free thanks to KFC’s brand partnerships/sponsorships for those who cannot currently afford to spend but still want to break a sweat with 50+ others.
Meagan has always found a way to beautifully merge her curation of feel good work out classes and the community around her, so it is no surprise that she is leveling up to provide KFC’s Work(out) From Home. The KFC community that spans across cities, states and even continents is powerfully coming together to support each other through this challenging time to keep it moving – literally. The current state of the world is challenging us step out of normalcy and adapt to virtual possibilities, and for Kong Fit Club, the challenge has been accepted. #YouKongDoIt
