
Today I am going to write about health and the theme is stress.
Stress is always present in our daily lives, whether at work, home routines etc. But if we don’t know how to manage stress it can cause serious damage to our health including on our immune system.
The immune system is the system that protects our body from disease. When it is working correctly, it detects attacks caused by viruses, parasites and other agents on the body.
Immunodeficiency, or low immunity, occurs when the activity of the immune system is lower than normal, which causes recurrent infections that can put the our life at risk.
Conversely, autoimmunity is the result of a hyperactive immune system that can
cause, for example, type 1 diabetes.
But what factors can change our immunity?
Food and emotional imbalances;
Anxiety;
Vitamin deficiencies;
Hereditary predisposition;
Stress
So, what to do to prevent changes to our immunity?
Eat a balanced diet;
Have a healthy routine of hygiene habits;
Sleep between 7 to 8 hours a night;
Control episodes of stress.
Back to the title of this article, how does stress interfere with immunity?
Stress increases the body’s production of cortisol, however, when
sporadic stress episodes, as soon as the adrenaline goes, hormone levels return to
normal and the whole physiological process as well.
However, when there are persistent situations that generate stress the gland
cortisol producer loses sensitivity and cortisol levels start to fall confusing our organism saying that it cannot rest since it does not have enough “fuel” ( cortisol) to combat emergency situations.
This clinical picture leads to very serious pathologies and one of them is low immunity.
It is very important to be alert to the signs that our body shows.
