How to be more comfortable with yourself?
Life often feels like a giant competition. Our society is constantly pointing who’s the prettiest, the smartest, the most successful etc.
Who set those standards anyway? Exactly?
Given all of this, I won’t be surprise you felt insecure every now and then. I mean it just how it works in our society, right? But it is really us who's bringing ourselves down. Because we let other people dictate who we are. It's time to change that.
But in order to overcome insecurities, you have to do all of this step.
1. Take care of yourself
It’s fun to stay up all night playing video games or watching movies, drinking and partying all night. People in our age will call it YOLO, “You Only Live Once”. I get that and that’s okay. But taking care of yourself, exercising, eating healthy and sleeping 7-8 hours a day is not so bad at all. It is not just to be fit and have a nice body but it’s for you to be healthy in order to live longer so you can enjoy life more. Isn't that better?
2. Spend time to be alone.
Even if you have a lot of great things happening in your life, it can still be tiring. We all need a break. Meditating can help restart your brain or just try to just spend a night alone with yourself, or a weekend alone in a nice place without distractions, no chatting, no social medias—just you and your thoughts, it will give you a fresh start. Give yourself a “me time”. Believe me it works every time.
3. Do things that makes you happy.
One thing that can help you figure out who you really are is by doing what makes you happy. It sounds cliché I know but it helps a lot. There are times in our life that we tried doing something that we really don’t want to do just to fit in for the sake of having friends. That’s very wrong. Because you only going to gain fake friends by doing something you don't like just to be their friends, that only means they don't accept you for you but they accept you because you're doing what they want. In order to overcome that insecurities, you have to accept yourself and do what really makes you happy and then you will gain true friends who will accept you from who you truly are.
4. Love yourself
Accept your physical flaws. I have vampire teeth and pale skin. My classmates from high school calls me Vampire Lady short for a vampire and white lady. No matter how hard I tried to hide my teeth, tan myself under the sun. They won’t stop calling me that. But then I realized they will only stop if I accepted my own flaws. They stop bullying me the moment I embrace myself. Try to not be affected everytime someone tries to bully you. By showing them how much you value yourself they will finally realized that they can't use your so called "flaws" to hurt you.
Take small steps at a time, a little change in your everyday routine won’t hurt. Love yourself first and the rest of the worlds will follow.
"You will be the greatest project you will ever work on. "
