How Steroid Injections at the Gym Nearly Destroyed My Hip 💉🏋️♀️
A personal journey from chasing fitness goals to living with chronic pain — and the lessons I learned along the way.

I want to share a personal story that changed my life completely and could help anyone who loves fitness or going to the gym. I was always passionate about staying in shape and building a strong, fit body. I dreamed of looking healthy and powerful, and I wanted results fast. So, when a trainer at my gym suggested some pills and injections to increase my appetite and help me gain muscle quickly, I didn’t hesitate. At first, it felt amazing. My appetite skyrocketed, I started eating more than ever, and I could see my body slowly changing. I felt proud and confident, but I had no idea what I was actually putting into my body. I didn’t know the risks. I didn’t ask questions. I just trusted the trainer.
About six months later, I started feeling a strange pain in my leg. I thought it was normal because I was training hard, especially doing leg exercises. But the pain grew stronger quickly. Within two weeks, even walking a short distance became unbearable. Going shopping, climbing stairs, or even just moving around at home was painful. Sometimes, I had to stop and sit after just a few steps. Slowly, the pain spread to my hip and groin. Even simple things like using the bathroom became difficult. My knee started hurting constantly, so I began wearing a knee brace to help with the discomfort.
I went to multiple doctors, tried massages, herbal remedies, and physical therapy, but nothing helped for long. The pain kept coming back, stronger than before. Finally, I consulted a highly respected orthopedic professor. They asked detailed questions about my gym routine and the supplements I had used. After running a CT scan, the results were shocking: the drugs I had been taking contained corticosteroids. These steroids caused avascular necrosis in my femur, which meant that part of my hip bone was dying. This was the reason for the unbearable pain. I couldn’t believe it. Something I trusted to help me gain muscle had caused serious, irreversible damage to my body.
I was prescribed medication for 60 days, but it didn’t help at all. The doctor then recommended surgery to remove the necrotic bone tissue. After the surgery, the pain didn’t go away. In fact, new problems appeared. My leg became slightly shorter, my knee continued to hurt while walking, and everyday activities remained challenging. The doctor advised against a hip replacement because I was young and would need to replace it every 10–12 years. I decided to follow this advice and now manage severe pain with medication when necessary.
Years later, I began corrective exercises under a specialist because my leg discrepancy had caused spinal misalignment and uneven shoulders. Physical therapy helped slowly, but it was exhausting, painful, and time-consuming. I also got custom orthopedic shoes to help balance my posture and reduce pain while walking. I drink plenty of water, consume dairy, and take daily calcium supplements. Despite all this, the recovery process remains challenging, and I still experience discomfort during daily life.
I want to stress something important: never take supplements, pills, or injections without fully understanding their ingredients and consulting a doctor. Fitness is wonderful, but short-term gains are never worth risking your long-term health. Ignoring early warning signs can lead to permanent damage that changes your life forever. 🦵💔 Always listen to your body, be cautious, and prioritize health over appearance.
To anyone who loves working out: please be mindful of what you put into your body. Don’t trust unverified advice, and always question supplements, injections, or medications. Your bones, joints, and muscles deserve careful attention, not shortcuts. Fitness should make you stronger and healthier, not leave you in pain or permanently disabled. 🏋️♂️💪
I also want to say that mental health matters. Pain and injury can affect your mood, motivation, and confidence. Dealing with long-term injuries is exhausting physically and emotionally. Surround yourself with supportive people, seek professional help when needed, and remember that recovery is a process, not a race. Be patient with your body, and always respect its limits.
My story is a warning, but also a reminder: health is priceless, and taking care of your body is a lifelong commitment. Don’t sacrifice your future for temporary gains. Stay informed, stay cautious, and stay strong. 💛✨
