Although food consumption is a vital necessity, the truth is that almost all foods contain both nutrients and toxins, as is the case with water and air. If your body cannot effectively eliminate toxic substances, you will face several health problems - diseases of the digestive tract, but you will also have complex skin - spots, acne, hives, etc.

Inside the body, substances are chemically decomposed, synthesized, and transformed - 80 percent of this activity means detoxification of harmful substances. This process is largely carried out by the liver, which can recognize millions of potentially harmful chemicals and turn them into harmless substances or, conversely, prepare them for disposal. The liver is the body's chemical brain - it recycles, regenerates, and detoxifies.

External toxins are only a small part of the toxic substances that the liver deals with, many toxins are produced right inside the body by molecules, otherwise harmless. Every thought, every breath, and every action of ours can cause toxins.

These toxins that arise inside us, as well as that outside, must be annihilated. But it all depends on the body's ability to detoxify. Sometimes we destroy our liver with products that it cannot clean and "throw" out.

Certain substances are not bad for the body and do not trigger certain adverse reactions, only that they exceed their detoxifying power. Imagine that your metabolism is on fire. Our metabolic fire - the body has glucose to produce energy, but it burns slowly and emits a lot of smoke. This "smoke" must be taken care of by the liver, these are also the toxins with which it has to fight.

How to test our detoxification potential

Usually, when we face problems, our body sends us signals - allergies, headaches, sensitivity to certain products, digestive disorders, muscle aches, all these are signs of a bad detox.

After years of analyzing the body's ability to cleanse itself of toxins, Jeffrey Bland of Functional Medicine Research Center, Washington, USA, compiled a metabolism test questionnaire that includes the most common symptoms of poor detoxification of the body.

Here's Bland's test:

Write down with one point each symptom that you have occasionally and with one point those that you have frequently:

  • Head - headache, fainting, dizziness, insomnia
  • Eyes - itching or tearing, swollen, red or sticky eyelids, dark circles or bags under the eyes, blurred vision
  • Ears- itching, pain, infection, leakage, wheezing, hearing loss
  • Nose - clogged, sinus disorders, allergic rhinitis, sneezing, excessive mucus buildup
  • Mouth - chronic cough, drowning, frequent need to straighten voice, hoarse voice, swollen or discolored tongue or gums, ulcers
  • Skin - acne, hives, rash, dry skin, hair loss, reddening of the skin or hot flashes, profuse sweating
  • Heart- irregular or intermittent pulse, accelerated pulse, chest pain
  • Lungs - congested chest, asthma, bronchitis, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing
  • Digestion - nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, belching, flatulence, heartburn, stomach pain
  • Joints/muscles - mild or acute muscle or joint pain, arthritis, stiffness or difficulty moving, feeling weak and tired
  • Weight - excessive consumption of food and drink, cravings for certain foods, excessive weight gain, compulsive eating, water retention, weight below normal
  • Energy - fatigue, laziness, apathy, lethargy, hyperactivity, anxiety

Mind - poor memory, confusion, poor comprehension, lack of concentration, poor physical coordination, low decision-making power, stuttering or stuttering, slurred speech, poor learning abilities.

Emotional states - mood swings, anxiety, fear, nervousness, anger, irritability, aggression, depression.

If your score exceeds 25 points, you probably have a detox problem and you should probably change your diet.

If you have accumulated more than 50 points you have a very low detoxification potential.

If the score exceeds 75 points it is necessary to consult a doctor. The body's detoxification ability can also be checked at a doctor's office. Fortunately, medicine now allows you to analyze your liver function.

The test consists of ingesting a certain amount of caffeine, aspirin, and paracetamol and analyzing the chemicals present in the urine. How these substances are treated and broken down shows how each aspect of the liver's ability to detoxify works.
